mentored by his uncle, Fabian de la Rosa, who was a prominent Philippine painter.

- - In 1916, he graduated with honors and received a sponsorship from Spanish businessman
Enrique Zóbel de Ayala to study at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, Spain.

Prolific Career (1920-1972): Became a leading Filipino painter, renowned for his landscapes and rural
scenes. Notable works include "Rice Planting," "Harvesting Rice," and "The Marketplace."

National Artist of the Philippines (1972): Honored as National Artist for Painting in 1972, recognizing his
profound impact on Philippine visual arts. and the first National Artist to recognized as “Grand Old Man
of Philippine Art”

Legacy and Famous Artworks:

"The Making of the Philippine Flag" (1944): Depicts the historic moment of sewing the Philippine flag
during World War II.

"Dalagang Bukid" (1936): One of his most famous works, showcasing a rural maiden with a vibrant and
idyllic backdrop.

"Lavanderas" (1920): Illustrates women doing laundry by the river, emphasizing Amorsolo's mastery of
light and shadow.
- Amorsolo received several accolades, including a UNESCO Gold Medal of Recognition, a Rizal-Pro Patria
Award from the Far Eastern University, and a Gawad CCP para sa Sining Award from the Cultural Center
of the Philippines.

- His legacy continues through the Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, which was established in his
honor by his children in 2003.
