ABOUT THIS COURSE


The Master of Applied Information Technology (NMIT) is a flexible, accredited course, providing advanced training for students with an IT
degree.

You’ll build on your computing skills, preparing for senior IT roles. The hands-on, practical classes let you develop and enhance the skills
shaped out of theory. Our masters in applied IT provides flexibility through face-to-face and online learning.

We focus on solving real-world problems in these areas:

cloud computing (with practicals using Amazon Web Services)


cyber security
advanced programming
software engineering
wireless and mobile networking
mobile applications
data analytics
project management.

You’ll develop new ideas for the IT field, either through an industry project or research activities designed to lead into a PhD. Our
experienced lecturers, excellent research facilities, and connections to industry give you opportunity and support to contribute original
and important ideas.

You'll also have the opportunity to take part in an industry placement program, helping you kick-start your career.

This course and its research programs are regularly reviewed to ensure current practice and IT industry developments are included.

TOP RESEARCH IN THE IT FIELD

NMIT offers students an opportunity to do either an in-house industry project under simulated environment, or extensive research
activities that could lead to a Higher Degree (PhD) by research.

As part of your master degree, you’ll be taught best-practice research techniques, and apply them to projects and theses in our
research project areas. Our researchers include staff who are world leaders in their fields. The high quality of our research ensures that
our courses remain relevant, world-class and allied to industry.

Victoria University’s Centre for Applied Informatics (CAI) is a leading research group in computing and information technology, and IT
applications. It engages computer scientists, experts from application domains (including health, community and business), and
government partners to develop innovative IT applications that benefit society.

WOMEN IN IT

Our Women in Science & Engineering program supports our current university students, and inspires women to choose engineering and
science careers.

We run hands-on workshops in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines for secondary-school students –
giving you the opportunity to encourage future mathematicians and IT experts.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR RESEARCH & OVERSEAS STUDY

VU offers scholarships for postgraduate research and international students to assist with the costs of study. The
College of Engineering and Science also provides additional scholarship opportunities.

We offer up to 10 scholarships to recent graduates to conduct supervised research during the summer. We also offer write-up
scholarships to students who have completed and submitted their thesis and intend to write manuscripts for publication with their
supervisors.

There are also exchange grants, loans and scholarships available for current students going overseas for study.

Gather the documents required to support your application. Providing the correct documents when you apply will ensure
your application is processed promptly. These may include

3. APPLY ONLINE
All students must apply for a VU course online. You can apply online and attach supporting documents using our online
application system. The system also allows you to:

Make sure the information you enter and your signature match your passport. If more information is required after you
apply, you will receive an email advising of a change of status in your application. Register to apply online at

VU-APPROVED AGENTS
You may wish to apply through a VU-approved agent. Some agents may charge a fee their services, so ask what these costs are
before making an appointment. In some cases, VU may require you to apply through an agent. If we require this, we will ask you
to appoint an agent if you apply directly to us.

4. ACCEPT YOUR OFFER


Log into your account to check your application status. If you have a conditional offer, you must meet all conditions before
accepting your offer. Once you receive a full offer you need to:

sign your International Student Written Agreement


pay your tuition fee
pay your Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of your visa for yourself and family members
accompanying you to Australia.

Once we have processed your acceptance, we will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) that you will need to use
to apply for a student visa.

5. ARRANGE YOUR VISA
Australia's Department of Home Affairs (DHA) issues student visas. Student visa processing times can vary, so you should
accept your offer as early as possible to have as much time as possible to apply for your visa. For details information visit
homeaffairs.gov.au

6. PLAN YOUR ARRIVAL


Once you have received your student visa, start thinking about your living arrangements and secure your accommodation
before you arrive in Melbourne. When booking your flight, aim to arrive in Melbourne at least two weeks before orientation,
leaving enough time before your course start date to:

find accommodation (if you haven't arranged it already)
attend your orientation session.

If you require VU to meet you at Melbourne Airport when you first arrive as a new student, complete the Airport Reception
Request form at least 10 days before you intend to arrive. Further information is available at vu.edu.au/airport-reception

7. ENROL AND ATTEND ORIENTATION


You can enrol online before your arrive in Australia if you are studying a higher education diploma, bachelor or
postgraduate (coursework) program. You can also arrange your timetable, check results, access emails and view tuition
fees online. If you are studying a foundation, English language, TAFE or research program, you will enrol in person.

Orientation activities are held twice a year (February/March) and (July) before the semester starts and are designed to help
you settle in. At them, you will receive important course information and make friends at fun social events. Orientation is
compulsory for international students.
