Do you need to do an organizational

assessment? Start your journey here

1. Introduction
-The definition of organizational assessment we will be using is from
Lusthaus, “Comprehensive structured framework supported by
concepts and elements. Views the performance of an organization as
a multidimensional idea, that is, as the balance between the
effectiveness, relevance, efficiency, and financial viability of the
organization” (Lusthaus, 2002).
-Benefits to organizational assessment:
Offers opportunities for input and feedback
Identify issues of concern (morale, engagement, motivation, etc.)
Provide input for future decisions
Adds a communication channel
Engages people to improve the organization (Veach, 2023)

2. Why is it important?
An organizational assessment can be a lengthy process, but is
necessary for any organization to work at its full potential. An
assessment can be utilized to show off an organization's good
Type something
performance or recommend where an organization can improve.

Doesn't everyone want our organization to be at its peak performance? I would like
to think so. That is why we must perform these organizational assessments. This
assessment will be helpful to identify organizational culture, effectiveness, and
monitor our progress towards our goals (Veach, 2023).

3. LESAT 2 Model
The Lean Enterprise Self-Assessment tool (LESAT) 2 is a
methodology of assessment for an organization to use which is
focused on the "leanness" or the identification and steady
elimination of waste (Veach,2023). It analyzes the goals, results,
and gaps between the current and desired states of an
organization (Veach, 2023). As a company, we need to manage
our organization at all levels, and the LESAT will provide us with
feedback to improve our company at all levels and can be
continuously revised as we improve.

3 Cycles
Strategic cycle
Planning cycle
Execution cycle
(MIT, 2012)

5. Why LESAT 2?
The LESAT 2 model would be a good first assessment to learn
and use because it focuses steadily on what to eliminate from
an organization to reach its future potential (Veach, 2023). The
model follows a cycle which is an easy image to post around the
company for others to recognize which part of the cycle we are
in. Lastly, each LESAT model's stages have five levels of
maturity and each level must be satisfied in order to move to the
next level if the organization chooses to reach the next level
(MIT, 2012).

6. Phases of LESAT 2
-Strategic Cycle
1. Determine organization's problems to change, and identify
imperative for change (MIT, 2012)
2. Ensure senior leadership has the conditions necessary to
pursue enterprise transformation (MIT, 2012)
-Planning Cycle
1. Analyze external environment and internal processes
(MIT, 2012)
2. Create an achievable vision of the future and make it
known to all levels of organization (MIT, 2012)
3. Developing organizational structure - including
systems, policies, metrics, and incentives (MIT, 2012)
4. Create a transformation plan - which determines
intended impact of projects on performance, priorities,
and a communication plan to keep organization on track
(MIT, 2012)

7. Final Phase
-Execution Cycle
1. Implement and coordinate transformation
plan which means progress is tracked
carefully, and resources, education, and
training provided as needed (MIT, 2012)
2. Nurture process and embed enterprise
thinking which involves outcomes of the
projects established in the transformation
plan are monitored, measured, and
communicated (MIT, 2012)
