CONTENT STANDARD:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the underlying concepts and principles in caring and
maintaining crops.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learners shall be able to care for and maintain crops.

COMPETENCY:
The learner will be able to identify the types of pests, collect the samples of common insects and pest
found in garden and perform monitoring of pest incidence based on prescribed procedures.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Identify the different types of beneficial insects
2. Discuss the behaviors of beneficial insects
3. Collect and preserved the different types of beneficial insects

Begin the lesson by reviewing the concepts of insects and their importance in the ecosystems.
Ask students to recall any previous knowledge they have about insects and their roles in nature.

B. Motivation

Show students pictures or videos of different beneficial insects such as lady bags, bees and praying
mantis. Engage students in a discussion about the potential benefits these insects provides to the
environment, plants and humans.

C. Developmental Activity
1. ACTIVITY
Exploring beneficial insects. Explore the garden and nearby green spaces to find and identify
different type of beneficial insects. Encourage students to observe and record the behavior of the
insects they find. Provide guidance and support as student collects and identify the insects.
2. ANALYSIS
Questions:
1. What are the different mind of beneficial insects they found?
2. What did you observe on the behaviors of the insects?
3. How these insects important and beneficial to environment?

Beneficial insects ( Sometimes called beneficial bugs) are any of a number of species of
insects that perform valued services like pollination and pest control.

4. APPLICATION:
Present a real-life problem to the students such as a garden infested with harmful insects. Ask
students to brainstorm and suggest which beneficial insect could be introduced to solve the problem.
Have students explain their choices by referencing the behaviors and benefits of the insects they
selected.

organisms and their classification.
