3. ABSTRACTION

WEEDS

Weeds are Plants growing where they are not wanted.

Weed control
1. Cultural Method
2. Manual method
3. Mechanical methods
4. Biological methods
5. Chemical methods
6. Integrated weed management
7. Economic of control

4. APPLICATION
Research and design an integrated weed management plan for a specific crop. Students will
apply their knowledge of weed identification, control methods, and integrated weed management to
develop a comprehensive plan that considers factors such as crop rotation, cultural practices, and
herbicide use.

IV. EVALUATION. Fill in the Blanks

1. _____are Plants growing where they are not wanted.
2. This can be grouped into cultural, manual, mechanical , chemical and biological techniques.
3. This includes burning, hand pulling and mechanical hand weeding. These labor intensive
methods
4. This involves the use of hand-pushed or powered weeders and is feasible only where cropd is
planted in straight rows.
5. Using of Herbicide is one of the most labor-saving innovations that have been introduced in
farming .
6. Using of direct and indirect control methods to provide cost-effective weed control.
7. In this method it includes the prevention of weed introduction, land preparation, crop rotation ,
cultivar selection, planting method, plant population, fertilizer application and water
management.
8. It is logical, therefore, that where one or a combination of methods exists, and both are
equally effective , the farmer choose the least costly.
9. use is one of the most labor-saving innovations that have been introduced in farming .
10. are selective in their control action and their activity may be restricted to a single weed.

V. ASSIGNMENT /PERFORMANCE
Question 1 - Explain the importance of accurately identifying weeds in weed control and
management. (10 pts)
Question 2 - Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of chemical and biological
weed control methods. (15 pts)
Question 3 - Design an integrated weed management plan for a specific crop, considering the
principles of sustainable agriculture. (20 pts)
