1. Check if the Instructor's station is connected to all ship stations.

2. Load the scenario and check Initial Conditions as per Exercise Plan copy.
3. Distribute cadet’s copy. Conduct briefing & preparation; questions will not be
entertained once the exercise scenario starts.
Instructor’s Actions 4. Monitor students as they determine the true bearing, assisting and clarifying
doubts as needed.
5. Save any notes or observations for the debriefing session.
6. Conduct debriefing as per debriefing guide checklist, discussing common
mistakes or misconceptions.

Briefing As per briefing checklist

Student Tasks 1. Once received, read carefully the exercise plan copy and understand the
scenario.
2. Use the magnetic compass to note the object's bearing.
3. Use the gyro compass to note the object's bearing.
4. Apply the known errors (variation, deviation, and gyro error) to the compass
readings.
5. Calculate the true bearing of the object using the corrected compass
readings.
6. Ensure the calculated true bearing is within an acceptable limit of +/- 1
degree.
7. Document the determined true bearing and compare with the instructor's
reference.
8. Discuss any discrepancies and understand the reasons behind them.
