Preface
Thank you for choosing XLC260 Crawler Crane made by XCMG, Construction Machinery
Co., Ltd. Building Machinery Co.
This manual describes the correct operation, inspection and adjustment for XLC260
crawler crane. In order to give full rein to the crane high performance, please read, understand
and use the operating instructions in this manual to ensure safety and high efficiency work for
a long time and take it as the foundation. Moreover, this manual contains the detailed
information of important components and system function as the reference to choose spare
parts.
Only the trained and qualified personnel may work on this crane. The possibility of causing
serious accidents will tremendously increase if the operators are untrained, and this should be
completely prohibited.
Secondly, when using the crane, please always pay attention to the system prompts and

alarm, operate the crane cautiously if there is dangerous situation, otherwise there may be
serious accidents.

Any risk caused by operation not according to this requirement is the responsibility of
crane owner, operator or user.
Pay attention to periodic inspections of crane safety devices and don’t use reluctantly the

devices with any defects and abnormalities. What you should always keep in mind is
SAFETY FIRST.

Please keep the supplied technical documents and operation manual carefully, and operate
the machine according to instructions in them.

The operation manual must be placed in cab or a place within easy reach of the driver, so
that the driver can easily check and deal with the failure at any time. The instruction manual is
an integral part of the crane.

Caution
1) Read this operation manual carefully and get familiar with procedures and
precautions before operation, refill sufficient fuel and hydraulic oil according to the
local and actual operation requirements, otherwise the machine should not be
operated!

2) Do not put hands and other parts of body or clothes into machine clearance.
Keep power supply far away from moisture environment. Operators should wear
safety helmet, gloves and protection glass!
3) Note whether there are persons around the machine before starting, start the
machine when there is no person in the dangerous areas, otherwise it is forbidden
to start!
4) This crawler crane is used for assembly work with hook block. The overall
machine working class is A1. It is strictly forbidden to carry out the work of piling,
pulling, dragging shovel, grabbing, dynamic compaction, electromagnetic lifting
that are beyond the working range of this crane. Otherwise, any danger or loss of
life of the crane caused by improper operation is entirely the responsibility of the
crane owner, driver or user!
5) Preserve this manual carefully for reference in the future!

Special Instructions for the Product Used in Low Temperature

1. The product is suitable for use at the ambient temperature -20℃~40℃. Please stop
the operation when the ambient temperature exceeds this temperature range, otherwise all
the consequences will be taken by the users themselves.
2. Operating limit conditions in cold weather
The static load of the steel of our cranes can use conditionally in extreme cold weather,
as well as the lifting capacity chart. Dynamic load lifting (compact and vibration) will
influence the lifting work of our crane in extreme cold weather (dynamic load usually
comes from travel, sudden impact, load release and continuous operation with load).
The following shall be strictly adhered to in order to prevent damage to crane and
components while operating in extreme cold weather:
(a)When the temperature is -21℃～-30℃, consider the potential error for hydraulic

components during operating, do not carry out lifting operation until the rated load is
reduced by 25%, to prevent impact or vibration to crane and lifting load.

(b)When the temperature is -31℃～-40℃, do not carry out lifting operation until the
rated load is reduced by 40%, consider stopping the lifting operation and it is forbidden to
carry out continuous operation.

(c)When the temperature is lower than -40℃, stop all lifting operation and it is
forbidden to carry out continuous operation.

3. Use of wire rope in extremely cold weather

Usually the rope will not become brittle when the temperature drops to -34℃. But the
lubricating of wire rope may become a problem in extremely cold weather, since the

ordinary lubricating oil will become stiff and fall off, so please use special lubricati ng oil
suitable for extremely cold weather.
4. When the temperature is lower than 4℃, it is allowed to use assistant starter for
engine start if necessary in extremely cold weather, but be cautious about danger of
explosion. Besides, in extremely cold weather, please preheat the hydraulic oil to at least
16℃ before operating the crane to prevent damage to hydraulic pump and hydraulic
components.
5. For the engine equipped with a cold starting device, please use it when the
ambient temperature is below 0℃. The engine cold starting device has two types: engine
intake preheating and fuel liquid circulating water heating, the former is us ed when the
temperature is below 0℃, and the latter is used when the temperature is below -10℃.
1) The intake preheating device begins to work when the ambient temperature is b elow

0℃. The counting starts from the key turned to “ON” position in starter switch, about 1
minute of waiting time (preheating lamp blink for 3 times). If the key is turned di rectly to
“START” position, the preheating function is automatically canceled.
2) When use external power circulating water heating, press the heater button in cab,
and the cold start device starts to work. Use the cold starting device to heat for about
30~40 minutes, the engine body temperature will be heated to about 20~ 30℃, close the
cold starting device, and then start the crane.
Warning
When using the external power heating or fuel liquid heating for engine cold
starting, before starting the crane, first de-energize the cold starting device, and
then start the crane, otherwise there is a risk of damage to the crane engine.
6. To prevent freeze in the lowest expected temperature, the cooling system must be

full. Usually 100% anti-freeze will freeze when the temperature is -23℃; compound of
40% antifreeze with 60% distilled water will provide antifreeze protection when the
temperature is -37℃; compound of 60% antifreeze with 40% distilled water will provide

antifreeze protection when the temperature is -51℃;
7. The battery must be fully charged to let it provide the max. starting power, and pay

attention to keep the crane warm while it is not in service. So it is recommended to store
the battery indoors, or heat the crane with battery heater while the crane is out of service.
Even the crane is 100% charged, there is only 40% starting power when the

temperature is -18℃, and only 18% starting power when the temperature is -29℃, so it is
recommended to have a spare battery with the same model to connect with the battery in

8. If the product is used at the low temperature, it is necessary to replace the various
brands of oil used for the crane, otherwise the engine may fail to start or the system
components may be damaged. Therefore, when using the product at the low temperature,

please replace in advance the brands of oil strictly in accordance with the required
temperature in Attached table I.

In order to make normal use of the crane, please replace in advance the brands
of oil strictly in accordance with the Attached table 1.

9. For other conditions which are not specifically described, please refer to the engine
operation manual supplied with the crane, and carry out the routine service and maintenance
of the engine in accordance with the requirements in the manual.
