Finn Andrews is one hell of a frontman. No need to hide behind anyone, much less a band name like
The Veils. Sure, he has a famous dad who was in XTC. That fact is mentioned in almost every single
article I’ve read about them. It’s quite irrelevant. This singer/songwriter’s talent goes far beyond what
mere genes could possibly provide.

He’s released two very different discs with two very different bands. He’s the only member to be on
both. The Runaway Found and Nux Vomica still bear his very distinctive voice but the themes and
sound are quite different. His passionate and intense delivery are never in question though.
On the second release, you might think you are safe until you hear the brilliant ‘Jesus for the Jugular’.
If this the only track you hear, it’s easy to see where the comparisons to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
come from. They surely aren’t referring to any visual resemblance!

Having spent the summer in North America, Finn is ready to get back into the studio and get ready to
release a third album, but not just yet. They graced our own El Mocambo in Toronto twice within the
span of about three months. When I heard word they were coming around the second time, I did not

they did not play it the first time around. I still can’t fathom why the club wasn’t jam-packed that night, but
although the band did notice and made comments to that fact - they didn’t deliver any less to those who
attended that September night.
Earlier I mentioned that they weren’t just ready get back into recording. Not just yet. They are on tour until at
least the end of November. If only I needed to be in London, New Zealand or Australia anytime soon.

If you haven’t heard of them yet, you might want to check them out. Visit YouTube to find their videos
(might I suggest “Calliope”?), or check their whereabouts on MySpace. Whatever you do, don’t let them play
to such a small crowd the next time they come all that way. That’s just plain rude!
