Let us read a story entitled “Me and My
Friend” (The story is presented via
PowerPoint presentation)

Me and My Friend
By: Melanie T. Sinahan

Me and my friend separate ways after our

high school days. We seldom talked over video
calls, but it does not replace the feeling of
missing someone you had back then. For over
the years, our friendship remains steadfast.
Amidst our busy days, either she nor I takes
time to leave a message of a simple hi’s and
hello’s. It wouldn’t take miles for us to see
each other, yet it feels so impossible for us,
so the advancement of technology is our only
means and serves as our bridge.

B. Presentation

What have you observed on the presented

story? Do you know what are these
underline words?
Today, we will learn about Conjunctions.
C. EXPLORATION Discussion

A conjunction is a word that joins words,

clauses, phrases, or sentences. Conjunction
is also called connector.

Types of Conjunctions:
1. Coordinate conjunctions- join words,
phrases or clauses having similar
grammatical structure.

A coordinating conjunction is also called a

coordinator, which are for, and, nor, but, or,
yet, so ( FANBOYS )

It joins the following:

• Word + word
• Clause+ clause
• Phrase+ phrase

Examples: He bought a book and a pen.

(two words)
You may meet me at my home or at
my office.(two phrases)
I waited for him but he didn’t
come.(two clauses)
D. EXPLANATION Here are some example sentences using the
seven coordinating conjunctions:

• I go to the park every Sunday, for I

love to watch the ducks on the lake.
• I watch the ducks on the lake
and the shirtless boys playing
soccer.
• I don't go for the fresh air nor for the
ducks; I just like soccer.
• Soccer is entertaining in winter, but it's
better in the heat of summer.
• The men play on two teams: shirts or
skins.
• I always take a book to read, yet I never
seem to turn a single page.
• I'm dating one of the players, so I
watch the soccer game each week.

2. Subordinate Conjunctions- join a

subordinate (dependent) clause to a main
(independent) clause.
A subordinating conjunction is also called a
subordinator, which are although, because,

A main clause is a group of words having a

subject and a verb. A main clause can stand

• Because of him, I learned how to

start my own business.
• Everything will fall into place if you
start at the beginning.
• Until you try, you’ll never know.

My Unforgettable Vacation
By: Melanie Tomes Sinahan
It was one summer, when me and my family
decided to go to our grandparents’ place for a
vacation. We’ve not visited them for a couple of
months, so everyone is excited to go. We lived
separately because my parents have bought a
portion of land in the city where we continue to go
to school. Although we’re apart, we love my
grandparents so much.
During our vacation, we’ve done a lot of things.
We take a bath in the river, play in the meadow,
and pick varied fruits grown in the backyard.
Before the sun sets, we witness how the birds fly
until they reach their respective homes. We help
feed the chicken, gather firewood, sweep the
backyard and prepare our foods. It was always an
amazing experience to be at my grandparents’
place even
if my present home is far different from theirs. No
matter
how long it will take, I will always treasure
this unforgettable vacation a lifetime.
