TANDEM
The tandem methodology symbolically
refers to an activity in which two
individuals, whose native language is the
one that the other wishes to learn or
improve, participate in a cultural and
linguistic exchange.

In this way, a mutual private lesson is promoted through a bilingual

exchange, the content of which is previously agreed upon by the
participants. This form of language teaching had its beginnings
specifically in Germany.

Confidence Development: Contributes to the development of

confidence in communicating in the target language, as participants
practice in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Socialization and Friendship:

Provides the opportunity to
establish social connections and
friendships through language
exchange, which can make the
learning process more enjoyable
and motivating.

Cost-effective: Compared to
some forms of formal teaching,
the tandem method can be a
more economical and accessible
option, as it does not involve
additional costs for tuition or
teaching materials.
BENEFITS OF THE TANDEM
METHOD
Cultural Exchange: Facilitates a direct cultural exchange between
participants, which enriches cultural understanding and promotes diversity.

Active Learning: Provides an active and participatory learning experience, as

students are directly involved in practicing the language through
conversation and various activities.

Personalized Approach: Allows for a personalized approach, as participants

can tailor sessions to their individual needs and preferences.

Reciprocal Motivation: Generates Wide Range of Skills: Addresses a

during interactions.
THE
“SUGGESTOPEDIA”
METHOD
Also known as "superlearning," as well as "suggestionless pedagogy"
or "integral learning," this method was introduced by Bulgarian
physician and neuropsychiatrist Georgi Lozanov, who introduced the
term in 1978. It is an effort to activate both. cerebral hemispheres in the
learning process, using various forms such as audios, translations,
mime, among others, based on communicative psychotherapy and
other psychotherapeutic disciplines.
BENEFITS
OF THE
SUGGESTOPEDIA
METHOD

Encouraging Active Participation:

Seeks the active participation of students through dynamic activities, role
plays and dramatizations that encourage interaction and commitment.

Incorporation of Suggestion:
Use suggestion as a tool to eliminate mental blocks and resistances, thus
facilitating the absorption of new information.

Adaptability to Different Ages:

It can be adapted to different age groups and skill levels, allowing its
application in a variety of educational contexts.
BENEFITS
OF THE
SUGGESTOPEDIA
METHOD
Flexible Roles:
Encourages flexible
roles in the classroom,
where both teacher and
student can adopt
different roles to
improve interaction and
communication.

Holistic Approach:
Approaches teaching
holistically, considering
the mind and body as an
integrated whole, which
can lead to more
complete and effective
learning.

Increased Confidence:
The emphasis on a
positive environment and
mutual trust between
teacher and student can
contribute to increasing
the student's self-
confidence.
Audio-
Lingualism
During the Second World
War the urgent need to
speak different languages
became clear. This situation
gave rise to different
approaches, among them,
the most widespread was
the Army Specialized
Training Program.

Learning a second language is a valuable

skill that can open many doors in a
child's life. The audiolingual method is an
effective technique for teaching English
to children.

The objectives pursued when using the

audio lingual method are several:

Develop oral communication

skills in the language you
want to learn.
Possess a high level of
pronunciation.
Fluency in oral
conversations.
Mastery of the language like
a native speaker.
Advantage of Use:
By using English at all times in the
classroom, a general context of
English immersion is created that
encourages language learning and
forces students to express themselves
in that language in any situation,
which develops self-learning by
seeking the correct way to
communicate a message.

Using audio to analyze and compare

the student's pronunciation with the
correct form helps them notice their
mistakes more easily, achieving better
pronunciation.

Disadvantages
of Use:
Little attention to grammar and
vocabulary: The audiolingual method
focuses mainly on oral
communication, which can lead to a
lack of attention to grammar and
vocabulary.

It can be boring: The constant

repetition of linguistic patterns can
be boring for some children, which
can lead to a lack of motivation.
How does it
work?
As we mentioned previously,
this method is based on
repetition and memorization
of linguistic patterns, which is
why it is essential that
children constantly listen to
To do this, as good teachers we
and repeat phrases and
must use various tools, such as
words in English.
audio recordings, videos,
interactive games and group
activities. These tools will allow
children to immerse themselves in
the language in a playful and fun
way, which facilitates their learning
and helps them maintain their
motivation.

In this method we prioritize

communication in English over grammar
and vocabulary. For this reason, students
use everyday dialogues and situations so
that they can learn to express themselves
in English in a natural and fluid way.

For example, we can role-play or ask

them to describe their routines.
THE
“COMMUNICATIVE”
METHOD OR
APPROACH

The obvious limitations of the previously mentioned methodologies

highlighted that none of them achieved, on their own, the purpose of
enabling the student to communicate comprehensively. Therefore, the
solution lay in a combination of elements of all of them, an approach
that covered, through diverse and stimulating activities, texts, dialogues
and exercises, all the areas in which communication takes place.
BENEFITS OF THE
“COMMUNICATIVE” METHOD
OR APPROACH

Development of Communicative Skills: Emphasizes the

development of communication skills, including oral and written
expression, as well as listening and reading comprehension.

Contextualization of Learning: Integrates learning into meaningful

and authentic contexts, which facilitates language comprehension
and retention.

Teaching Linguistic Functions: Focuses on teaching specific

linguistic functions, such as asking questions, giving instructions, or
expressing opinions, rather than simply learning vocabulary and
grammar in isolation.

Active Participation: Encourages students' active participation in

simulated communication situations, which promotes confidence
and fluency in language use.
Although the
"audiovisual"
method shares a
common root
with the
"audiolinguistic"
method, since
both are based on
linguistic
structuralism,
there are notable
differences
between them.
The "audiovisual"
was conceived in
France by the
C.R.E.D.I.F.
(Centre de
Recherche et
d'Étude pour la
Diffusion du
Français) in the
mid-1950s, and
its most notable
features can be
summarized as
follows:

THE
“AUDIOVISUAL” METHOD
BENEFITS OF THE
AUDIOVISUAL
METHOD
Multimedia Approach: This method
incorporates various media, such as
visual presentations, videos, audio
recordings, and artwork, to provide
a richer and more varied learning
experience.

Visual and Auditory Stimulus: By

combining visual and auditory
elements, the audiovisual method
addresses different learning styles,
benefiting those who learn best
through observation and listening.

Facilitates Retention: Combining

images and sounds can improve
retention of material as they
reinforce each other, helping
students remember information
more effectively.

Interactivity: May include

interactive elements, such as
hands-on activities, simulations,
and exercises, that actively engage
students and encourage more
effective participation.

Adaptability: The audiovisual

method is adaptable to a variety of
topics and educational levels. It can
be used in teaching languages,
sciences, mathematics, humanities
and other disciplines.
The audio-visual material strategy is a powerful tool for teaching
English to children, as it takes advantage of the visual and auditory
nature of children to facilitate more effective and engaging learning.

Audiovisual media will always be a useful resource in the context of

education. There is also a wide variety of such media..

Educational videos:

There is an infinite amount of

didactic content on the internet
aimed at teaching children the
language. From YouTube
channels to television
programmes, there are hours
and hours of content designed
to ease your child's path to
language proficiency.

Cartoons:

You don't need to limit yourself

to instructional videos. Simply
having your child watch
cartoons or children's
programmes in the language
can help them become familiar
with the language, or help them
acquire new vocabulary if they
already have some knowledge.
Some suggestions on how to
implement this strategy
effectively:

1.- Select relevant and engaging

content:
Choose audio-visual material
that is appropriate for the
age and level of the children.
Look for videos, songs or
educational programmes
that integrate interesting
stories, colourful characters
and vocabulary appropriate
to the students' level.

2.- Integrate a variety of media:

Use a combination of videos, songs, interactive games and educational
apps to keep children's attention.
Vary the types of content to address different learning styles.

3.- Encourage active participation:

Incorporate interactive activities after watching a video or listening to a
song. These can be quizzes, role-plays or hands-on exercises that
reinforce the content learned.

4.- Create a stimulating environment:

Design a space in the classroom that is conducive to showing videos or
playing songs. Make sure children can see and hear clearly.
Use visuals such as posters, posters and flashcards to reinforce the
vocabulary learned.

5.- Adapt the content to the level of the students:

Make sure that the videos and songs selected are appropriate for the
English level of your students.
Use subtitles or provide additional support if the material is a little more
advanced.
6.- Incorporate follow-up activities:
After using the audio-visual
material, develop activities that
allow students to practise and apply
what they have learned in a real-life
context.

7.- Encourage repetition and review:

Repeat audio-visual material on a
regular basis to reinforce concepts
and build a solid foundation.
Create playlists or collections of
thematic material to facilitate
review.

8.- Be conscious of time:

Control the length of audio-visual use to prevent children from tuning
out. Keep sessions short and dynamic.

9.- Evaluate progress:

Observe how children respond to the audio-visual material and adjust
your approach according to their reactions and needs.

10.- Encourage creativity:

Encourage children to create their own short videos, skits or songs in
English. This not only reinforces learning, but also stimulates creativity.

By implementing an effective audio-visual strategy, teachers can make the

process of learning English more engaging, memorable and fun for children.
METHOD OF
MUSIC,
SONGS AND RHYMES

You probably remember singing many nursery rhymes as a child.

Although these were probably in Spanish, you must have imagined that
they exist in all languages. Children's songs often come with funny
animated videos, which attract children's attention.

Understanding, and singing these songs is a great way to get our children
started with pronunciation. Some of the most popular songs to teach
language are:

This is me - Cantajuego
Hakuna matata - The lion king

The "Music, Songs and Rhymes" strategy is an effective and fun tool for
teaching English to children. Music has the power to capture children's
attention and facilitate the learning of a new language in a playful and
memorable way.
Here are some recommendations
for implementing this strategy:

1.- Select appropriate songs:

Choose songs that are

appropriate for the age and
level of the children.
Opt for songs with clear lyrics
and vocabulary relevant to the
topic you are teaching.

2.- Contextualising the songs:

Introduce the song by explaining the context and key vocabulary.
Provide pictures or gestures to help children understand the
meaning of the words.

3.- Song lyrics:

Provide written lyrics so that children can follow along visually.
Provide reading activities related to the lyrics to reinforce
vocabulary.

4.- Games and activities:

Create games and
activities based on
the songs to
practice vocabulary,
grammar and
language skills.
Incorporate
movements and
gestures to
accompany the
lyrics to make the
experience more
interactive.
5.- Create your own rhymes:
Encourage children to create their own rhymes or lyrics inspired by
the structure of the song.
Encourages creativity and self-expression while practising the
language.

6.- Events and performances:

Organise events or performances where children can show what
they have learned through songs and rhymes.
Include parents so that they can also participate and see their
children's progress.

7.- Integration with other activities:

Combine music and songs with other activities, such as crafts or
games, to enrich the learning experience.
8.- Use of multimedia resources:
Use multimedia resources, such
as videos and recordings, to
diversify the learning
experience.
Incorporates songs from well-
known artists and authentic
materials for exposure to the
natural accent and style of the
language.

9.- Positive feedback:

Provides positive feedback and reinforces children's
achievements to motivate their active participation in activities.

10.- Adaptation to different levels:

Adjusts the difficulty of songs and activities according to
children's ability level to ensure that everyone can participate and
learn effectively.

By incorporating the "Music, Songs and Rhymes" strategy in teaching

English to children, you are not only providing an effective educational
experience, but also cultivating a fun and motivating environment
that fosters a love of learning English.
TECHNOLOGY
METHOD

The technological strategy for teaching English to children is essential

in today's educational environment, where technology plays a
fundamental role in everyday life. Given children's familiarity with
technology, it is suggested that it be seen as an ally that facilitates
access to diverse sources of educational content, ranging from didactic
material to applications and video games designed to teach the
language.
Video games: It is true that
there are video games
designed specifically for the
purpose of teaching the
language. However, the
simple fact of playing a
video game in English can be
a very entertaining way to
practice it, or for your child to
develop an interest in trying
to understand it.

Apps: Nowadays there are

many free apps that function
as English language courses.
Platforms such as Duolingo,
teach English from the most
basic levels, with a friendly
and intuitive interface for all
ages, and with a system of
rewards and rewards that
will encourage your child to
continue learning.

Electronic devices: It may

seem silly, but the simple
fact of configuring our
devices in English will force
the child to sporadically
learn new vocabulary, as
they will need to access the
different functionalities of
the device, as well as relate
the words to their functions.
Specific suggestions for teachers to
incorporate technology effectively in
teaching English to children:

1.- Interactive Educational Apps:

- Use educational apps
designed specifically for
teaching English to children.
These applications are often
interactive and engaging, which
facilitates children's active

songs in English. These can help children develop listening skills and
improve their pronunciation in a natural and fun way.

5.- Videoconferencing Platforms:

Use videoconferencing platforms to organise interactive sessions in real
time. These sessions can include games, conversations and collaborative
activities that allow children to practise English in a practical and
communicative way.
6.- Online Collaborative Projects:
Encourage collaboration
among students through
online projects. They can
work together on projects
involving research in English,
writing reports or creating
multimedia presentations.

7.- Interactive Assessment

Platforms:
Use interactive platforms to
assess students' progress in
a fun and motivating way.
Assessment games and
interactive activities can
make the assessment
process more engaging.

8.- Augmented and Virtual Reality Resources:

Explore augmented and virtual reality resources that can immerse
children in virtual environments where they can apply their English
skills in a practical and exciting way.

By incorporating technology strategies effectively, teachers can make

teaching English to children more engaging, motivating and relevant to
their digital environment. It is essential to balance the use of technology
with practical and creative activities to ensure holistic and meaningful
learning.
STUDY RESOURCES
METHOD

There are many teaching resources that you can make at home. Here
are some examples.

Flashcards: Flashcards are one of the many teaching resources that

exist, and one of the most popular. It consists of a simple piece of
paper with a question on one side and an answer on the other. This is
a quick and fun way to learn new vocabulary.

Vocabulary cards: You can attach cards to objects in your house,

with their respective names in English. This way, every time your
child interacts with them, he/she will learn to relate them to the
word. You can encourage them to refer to them in English.

The text highlights the variety of ways to make children's learning more
enjoyable, recognising that each child is unique and may have different
interests or learning paces. It suggests trying out different strategies
gradually to discover which ones are most effective for each child.
1.- Interactive materials:
Use interactive materials such as
games, puzzles and online
activities that actively engage
children in language learning.
Educational apps and online
games can be effective tools to
reinforce vocabulary and
grammatical structures in a playful
way.

2.- Picture books and stories:

Incorporate picture books and
stories in English to encourage a
love of reading from an early age.
Books with colourful pictures and
engaging characters capture
children's attention and help them
associate words with pictures,
facilitating learning.

3.- Songs and Rhymes:

Integrate English songs and rhymes
into lessons to make learning more
memorable and fun.
Music helps children remember
vocabulary and improve pronunciation
in a natural way.

4.- Audiovisual materials:

Use educational videos and
programmes designed for children
that teach basic language concepts in
an entertaining way.
Animated series or educational
programmes in English are excellent
for reinforcing listening and
comprehension.
5.- Word Games:
Design word games and
puzzles that challenge
children to use English in
creative ways.
Word games encourage
active participation and
reinforce vocabulary and
grammar learning.

6.- Educational Technology:

Take advantage of
educational technology
tools, such as interactive
whiteboards and educational
apps designed specifically
for teaching English to
children.
Technology can make
learning more interactive
and stimulating.

7.- Cultural Integration:

Introduce cultural elements of the
English-speaking world through
themed activities, festivals and
celebrations.
Connecting language with culture
helps children understand and
appreciate linguistic diversity from
an early age.

By employing this "Study Resources"

strategy, teachers can create a
stimulating learning environment that
motivates children to develop
effective and lasting English language
skills.
