Introduction
The idea behind a reusable rocket is to
recover the
Ultra-expensive rocket boosters used for
launching space crafts, and afterwards to
refuel and reuse them for space flights.
RLV(Reusable launch vehicle)
means a vehicle that is designed to return to
Earth substantially intact and therefore maybe
launched more than one time or that contains
vehicle stages that may be recovered by a
launch operator for future use in the operation
of a substantially similar launch vehicle.
Unsurprisingly, it’s much cheaper to
refurbish and relaunch a rocket than to build d
a new one – it can be upto 65% cheaper, with a
30x lower cost overrun. Reusable rockets also
use less fuel than their expandable
counterparts, making them comparatively
better for the envioronment
Q1. How can we make rocket
reusable??
For making of the reusable rocket it
requires a special design that
allows the rocket to slow down and
control its descent.
One of the way to make a rocket
reusable is to make it land
vertically, like a helicopter.
Smaller parts such as rocket engines
and boosters can be reused, though
reusable space craft may launched
on the top of expandable launch
vehicle. Reusable launch vehicle do
not need to make this parts for each
launch, therefore reducing its launch
cost significantly.
Propulsion system
Rocket engines generate thrust by expelling an
accelerated fluid (usually a high-pressure gas
created by burning solid or liquid propellants ,
made of fuel and oxidiser) through a nozzle. The
combustion process takes place in chamber, where
the high temperature and pressure are ideal for
optimal performance.
The gas expands as it exists the nozzle , reaching
supersonic speeds and creating a reaction that
propels the rocket in opposite direction.
Combustion is most commonly used method for
rocket propulsion due to its efficiency in generating
high temperatures and pressure.
There are several types of rocket engines, each
with its own unique characteristics and uses. Some
common types include: Solid rocket engine
Liquid rocket engine
Hybrid rocket engine
Types of rocket engines
Solid rocket engine:
These engines use solid fuel and an oxidiser which are
premixed and packed into rocket’s casing. They are known
for their simplicity, reliability, and high thrust-to-weight
ratio.
