5.How does the strengthened trade wind affects the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean
a. Upwelling of colder water intensifies. b. upwelling of colder water is blocked
c. upwelling of colder water is balanced. d. all of the above is not true.
To describe and explain the physical world, we must understand properties and causes of
B. MOTIVATION: Establishing motion. We can divide the study of motion into two parts: Kinematics and Dynamics.
a purpose of the lesson Moreover, to describe the motion of an object, we need to understand the concepts of
speed (distance and time), velocity, and acceleration.

concepts and skills in daily
living

 Motion is the continuous change in position with respect to a reference point.

 An object can be considered moving or at rest depending upon a reference point (frame
of reference).
 KINEMATICS – the mathematical description of motion.
 The study kinematics requires the measurement of three properties of motion.
H. GENERALIZATION:  (1) displacement – the straight-line distance between two points (a vector quantity)
Making generalizations and  (2) velocity – the change in displacement with respect to time (a vector quantity)
abstractions about the  (3) acceleration – the change in velocity with respect to time (a vector quantity)
lesson  Distance like displacement, refers to the change in position between two points, but not
in a straight line. Distance is a scalar quantity.
 Speed refers to change in position with respect to time but unlike velocity, does not
require straight line motion. Speed is a scalar quantity.
 Acceleration is the rate of change in the speed of an object. Rate of change means the
ratio of the amount of change divided by how much time the change takes.
