Studies have linked volunteerism, one of the popular forms of altruism, to happiness,
better physical health, and increased mental health.
One study followed a group of mothers over 30 years. Over the three decades, 52
percent of the women who rarely or never volunteered experienced a significant
illness, while only 36 percent of women who routinely volunteered experienced a
major illness.
In another study, scientists found that older adults who participated in a volunteer
organization had lower depression rates, less anxiety, and an increased will to live.
Another study found that adults aged 55 and older who consistently volunteered had
a 44 percent decrease in mortality rates. (P.Bolte, January 2021; Why we give – The
science of Generosity)
Basing from the article made by P.Bolte, students who are engaged in activities such
as our School Donation drive may contribute to a lot of positive outcomes. Not only
we are helping another school, but we are also majorly helping ourselves.
According to Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), giving or donating makes us feel good,
strengthens personal values, impacts lives, reintroduce other people to the
importance of generosity, and it builds and strengthens the community. The effect on
students may vary, but for the wholistic point of view, the outcome of this can change
the learner’s perspective in life.
Objectives
1. To be able to show the learners firsthand the importance of giving and helping.
2. To build the learners’ confidence on doing charity work.
3. To create a positive mentality on caring and sharing.
4. To educate the learners about the other less fortunate schools around them.
5. To have a better view of life and appreciate what they have.
Goals
Quantitative:
1. Grades 4 to 6 Techawit School students attended at 96%
2. Gave school supplies to all the students in Maklua Krok Ka Sang School
3. Supports on visual aids and other teaching materials.
Qualitative:
1. Collaborating with other students during fun games and activities.
2. Establish good communication with another school for future events.
3. Create an understanding to the learners and set their world view.
Place
Plan
1. Project Proposal
2. Meeting with the other School
3. Activity heads meeting
4. Designation of duties and responsibilities
5. Final meeting between the heads and school admin
Process
The table above shows the result of the evaluation of the donation drive
where 5 is the highest score and 1 is the lowest. Students from grades 4 to 6 were
asked to fill up the survey. Accordingly, grade 6 students find it more interesting than
the other two grade levels but still all levels responded positively on the activity.

Though there are factors affected the said activity like the rainy morning, we still
managed to mobilize the program but in limited space. The teachers, staff, and the
management made the program special by thinking of a way where kids can still
walk on the muddy path and drizzly weather going to the fruit farm. All wore plastic
cellophane on their shoes and head and enjoyed walking and sightseeing.
Highlights
2. The TWS students enjoyed socializing with other students from Maklua Krok Ka
Sang School. They had the first activity where they need to ask new friends their
names and favourite things. The games followed by playing balloon and English
vocabulary games and other English fun games.
3. It was drizzling that morning and the soil was damp, the manager thought of using
plastic cellophane for everyone to wear, not to get the shoes muddy and dirty.
Everyone headed to the fruit farm to see many different fruit trees. The farmer let us
all try and taste some of their sweet fruits. It was also like a mini seminar in planting
crops and trees. The students visited the fishpond and the chicken coop afterwards.
4. After lunch, all students gathered and gave some school supplies to the students
from MKS. TWS admin, staff and teachers also handed the teaching materials and
some visual aids.
5. The last stop before going back to TWS was also a great experience for the
students. The farmer taught them how the fertilizer was mixed. The students also
tried helping in carrying the necessary materials to make the fertilizer. Overall, the
experience was really great.
Things to Develop
External factors such as weather cannot be handled, with what happened during the
donation drive, we must create sets of plans for indoor or outdoor activities. We, the
heads of this event needed to check the weather forecast before we have had
planned to do it in the morning. In our opinion, the forecast is cantered in the city not
the outskirts. Nevertheless, being flexible in circumstances such as the mentioned
above can make the activity in a 100% fulfilment level for us heads and planners of
the event.
