Introduction

The introduction gives readers an understanding of the research problem and its context

as well as provides sufficient background for readers to understand why you chose this study.

The introduction has a few paragraphs that highlight the main study’s concepts or variables and

their conceptual definitions and discuss the problem identification, background, scope of the

problem (prevalence nationally and internationally), knowledge gap, and proposed solution. It

means you will incorporate the problem statement with the introduction and answer the question:

“What is the gap that needs to be filled?” and/or “What is the problem that needs to be solved?”

Support all ideas with findings from the literature and cite them according to APA Style, 7 th ed

using Endnote or Mendeley. The full reference to each citation must appear on a separate

reference page(s) entitled 'References'. The introduction can be 2 to 3 pages long.

Significance of the Study

You focus on the significance of and need for the study. Why is it important to conduct

the study? Build a strong case for your topic's importance and its need in nursing (the implication

to nursing education, practice, research, and policy). Support all ideas with findings from the

literature and cite them according to APA Style, 7th ed. It can be 2 to 3 pages long.

Purpose of the Study

“The aim of this study is to….” “The purpose of this research is to examine..." or “This

study aims at ascertaining ....” This aim will be achieved through the following objectives: This

should be the specific aims of the study.

Conceptual /Theoretical Framework

Under this heading, name and define the theoretical or conceptual model that underpins

the study. Place a diagram of the model. The research hypothesis should be derived from the

specific aims of the study and theoretical framework. You can also list your research questions.

They must be written using an acronym (PICOT) as a guide.

Literature Review

Under literature review heading, present a critical, current state of knowledge about main

study concept/s. It is important summarize, synthesize, and critique the exiting literature. Then,

you can recognize relationships among studies and pinpoint to trends, gaps, and inconsistencies

in the literature. You are demonstrating your familiarity with the topic and illustrating how your

research questions and approach are different from other existing studies.

You should mainly use primary source of research reports, which are descriptions of

studies written by the researchers who conducted them. You can organize your literature review

based on your concepts as recognizable topic and begin each with a sub-heading. Avoid listing

studies and saying “Alzharni says X, Aldawsari says Y” and try to look for trends and themes

and then tying and synthesizing related information. Avoid including all the studies on the

subject and use only those studies that are directly relevant to your subject. You start each

heading with defining your concept, provide relevant statistical information, and current

background information, followed by how the concepts are studied and how they are related.

Focus on the findings from the literature that are central to your study. Conclude the review of

literature with a concise summary of the literature and provide a rationale for conducting your

study. It can be 6 to 10 pages long.

Study Setting and Sample

Give brief descriptions of the study setting (where the data will be collected). Describe

the population under study and identify the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Describes the actual

sample and how participants will be recruited. I mean the sampling techniques, such as

convenience sampling, random sampling, and purposive sampling. Provide the sample size and

how it was calculated (e.g. using power analysis).

Data Collection Procedure

Describe the methods and procedures that will be used to collect the data, such as

surveys, structured interviews, naturalistic observation, or questionnaires.

Measurements

You need sub-headings for each scale that is going to be used, including its assumptions,

scoring, reliability, validity, and permission to use the tool. Provide specific reliability and

validity data for the subscales. If you are going to adapt and translate a scale, explain the

procedures of the adaption and translation (content validation) and how it will be pilot-tested.

Organize this part based on measured concepts.

Ethical Consideration

Give detailed descriptions of the study's ethical process, including Institutional Review

Board application, informed consent, and the principles of ethics (i.e. beneficence, justice,

human dignity). You need to describe how confidentiality procedures and debriefings will be

achieved.

Data Analysis

Indicate which analytic tool you will use, such Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)

program, and the number of used versions. Specify the descriptive statistic that will be used to

describe the sample's major variables. Specify exactly the planned statistical test you will use and

provide a well-thought-out rationale for your decision to use this statistical test and its

assumptions. For example, if you have to compare two groups you have to choose a t-test with

an alpha level of 0.05 and how t-test assumptions will be examined.
