BACKROUND OF THE COMPANY

Nike is an American sportswear company that is one of the world’s best-known brands
and was founded in January 25,1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman,
his former track and field coach at the University of Oregon. The company initially operated as
a distributor for the Japanese shoemaker Onitsuka Tiger, importing high performance running
shoes to the United States. The first retail store, opened in 1966, was located in Santa Monica,
California. After 5 years, 1971, BRS decided to launch its own line of footwear products, and
the company officially became Nike, named after the Greek winged goddess of victory. The
iconic "Swoosh" logo, designed by Carolyn Davidson, was introduced around the same time.
Over the years, Nike continued to innovate in athletic shoe technology and expanded its
product line to include apparel and accessories. The "Just Do It" slogan was introduced in
1988 and became a central part of the brand's marketing identity. Nike's growth has been
marked by numerous high profile athlete endorsements, partnerships, and sponsorships like
Michael Jordan, Cristiano Ronaldo, Tiger Woods, has contributing to its status as one of the
most recognizable and valuable brands globally and contributed to the company success.
