Doubling the income Through Bio-flock FISH farming

Snehalata is a progressive farmer in Dudinuagaon village out of 250 families


Snehalata and his family interested towards new farming system. She belongs to
Gouiri Producer Group and is a resident of Dudinuagaon village of Rampur
Panchayat, Balisankara Block of Sundargarh District. She has one daughter and
one son. Her husband is a farmer and from farming they fulfil their basic needs and
maintain their family
APC project started in Balisankara Block in the month of July 2021.In the PG
formation meeting Mrs. Sa participated and shared various issues related to their
livelihood. She always tries to find some other ways of income. Then APC
introduced various alternative livelihood options such as Agriculture farming,
Horticulture farming, livestock and Mushroom cultivation through PG support
form line department. We prepared a plan to organize for Bio-flock fish farming
training. During data collection she was identified, and we decided to create space
to provide training.

As a result in the month of September 2022-2023 training was organized by APC,


Balisankara, and team at Rampur GP of Sundargarh District. There were 4 PG
member including Mrs. Snehalata Sa who attained the training and were able to
learn all relevant things related to the process of Bio-flock fish farming. It was a
nice interaction with different farmers. Miss sa showed interest for a Bio-flock
production for commercial purpose.
Fish Production through Biofloc farming for Doubling the Small Holder Farmers’
Income of Snehalata shows that the initial fixed cost incurred in Biofloc farming
was found to be Rs. 100000 , including the installation of 6 Tanks charges while
the expenditure on variable cost were approximately estimated as Rs. 4.00.000.
four lakhs totality, where she get a subsidy from fishery department 2.50.000 a
farmer in the study area incurs or spent an amount of Rs. 144200 for undergoing
Biofloc farming. Usually the farmers produce 2 crops in a year and each crop or I-
crop can harvest upto 600 kg with a gross cost of Rs. 180000 and a net return of
Rs. 35800. Thus a Biofloc farmer harvested 1200 kg with an annual net return of
Rs. 71600 from the 2 crops on an average.

The family member of Snehalata is very thankful to APC project and SEWAK
Team .also fishery department because from this project and department she got
the right track. Not only Snehalata but also 2-3 other mothers are also interested to
do this as a commercial purpose to fulfil their basic needs of family
