1. Introduction
This method statement serves to outline the steps and actions that Schindler will adopt to undertake
the installation of Machine-Room-Less Elevators.

2. Scope of Work
This method statement covers the complete works required to offload, shift, install, test, commission
and hand-over the elevators installed by Schindler

3. Materials
1. Schindler elevator materials (including doors, brackets, guiderails, cars, ropes, etc…)
2. Scaffolding (by main contractor)

4. Equipment
1. General hand tools (i.e.: Screw-drivers, wrenches, pliers, cutters, etc…)
2. Electrical tool-set (hand-drill, grinder, cutter)
3. Electrical hoists
4. Shifting equipment (Boom loaders, hydraulic trolleys, etc…)
5. PPEs (gloves, goggles, hard hats, plastic gloves)

7. Checking and Preparing Building Site

• The layout drawings and building plan are available.
• The work site has been checked by the supervisor and found ready for material delivery
according to the builder’s work plan.
• The packing list is available.
• The tools are in good working condition and inspected according to the local Schindler
procedures.

8. Inspection - Inspect site

The purpose of this inspection is to alert both the builder and the Schindler office, as early as possible,
of any discrepancies or deviations in the structure which may affect the installation of the elevator. It
also draws attention to any site conditions which could cause delays or possible damage to elevator
equipment when the elevator equipment is delivered.

Clean and dry conditions on site are absolute necessities to

provide the client with an on-time quality elevator installation.
The builder must duly rectify / complete in a timely manner
the requisite as per the “Checklist for Building Check – Pre
installation Check list” provide by Schindler.

9. Scaffolding
Note: It is suggested that no high rise hoistways the scaffolding
be built in stage with each new section being supported on
beams designed to support the scaffolding weight.

Make sure that the site dimensions have been checked against
the elevator layout drawings.
Check that hoistway is clear of debris
Determine position of scaffolding so that it does not interfere
with the plumb lines and guide rails.
Position timber on the pit floor to form level base for scaffold
erection.
Assemble scaffolding framework installing tie rods at intervals
for stability
For an easy access of the machine, make sure that the
uppermost platform is installed with a distance 1.2 to 1.3 meter.
Observer safety precautions (for example, erection of safe
working platform, kick boards, ladders and barriers)
Third party certification to be provided once scaffold complete, with scaff tag prior to access for lift
technicians.
Weekly inspection to be conducted by competent scaffold supervisor or if there is any major changes
in weather which could affect scaffolding.

Note: Under No circumstances is Schindler to alter the scaffold. Any amendment to scaffold must be
first advised to third party scaffold team + BM Safety dept.

10. Install the plumb gauges in the hoist way head

Prepare plumbing lines at top and bottom according to the layout drawings.

Drop Plumb lines for car and counterweight guide rails and door positioning.

Align plumb lines relative to builder's grid (if applicable).

Check the position of plumb line with reference to hoistway and door openings.

Prepare table showing the dimensions from each line to the hoistway wall for each floor and take these
measurements and record them in the table.

Check that the dimensions are adequate to accommodate the elevator(s) and if not arrange the plumb
line(s) to obtain the optimum position.

Discuss the table with the builder, explaining any problems that may occur and if both parties are
agreed have the builder date and sign the table.

Keep copies of the dimension table on site and in the office file.
