Puck- A black disk made of hard rubber
and is usually used in ice hockey.
Impedes-Is the act of delaying and
preventing or obstructing
Rough play-Physically vigorous
behaviors,such as chase and play fighting.
Goal Tenders-It is the player responsible
for preventing the hockey puck from
entering their team's net

The objective of this presentation is
to provide an understanding and
knowledge about ice hockey,covering
it’s history,basic rules, player
positions and etc.
WHAT IS ICE HOCKEY??

Ice hockey is a dynamic and fast-paced


sport played on an ice rink,where two
teams compete to score goals by shooting
a puck into the opposing team’s net.
BACKGROUND OF ICE HOCKEY
Ice hockey is a game played in the early
1800's in Nova Scotia by Micmac indians.
It is a contact team sport played on
ice,usually in a rink,in which two teams of
skaters use their stick to shoot a vulcanized
rubber puck into their opponent nets to
score points
It is most popular in areas of North
America(Canada,US and Europe)
It is the official national winter sport of
canada

EQUIPMENTS
Goal tenders use different
equipment.
-Goalie skates -Chesr protector
-A jock or jill -Goalie Masl
-Large leg pads -Large Jersey
-Blocking glove
-Catching glove
Ice hockey stick is approximately
150-200 cm long.
It is composed of long,slender
shaft witt flat extension
It can also vary in sizes
PLAYERS
It is played by Six (6) players on ice for each team
[Five (5) skaters and One (1) goal tender]
The typical roster size of a hockey team is Twenty
(20) players
[Twelve (12) Forward ,Six(6) Defense men and Two(2)
Goal tenders.
There are unlimited amount of substitutions and
they can happen at any time except when the
defensive team ices the puck.
SKILLS/TECHNIQUES
SKATING-Is the foundation of ice hockey, without this
you won't be able to play the game effectively.
STICK HANDLING SKILLS-Refer to the abilities that ice
hockey players need to control the puck with their sticks
while skating on the ice.
SHOOTING SKILLS-Winning and losing a game is
dependent on a good shot as it make a lot of difference.
PASSING SKILLS-Is an essential skill in ice hockey. It
involves moving the puck from one to another
RULES IN
ICE HOCKEY
ICING
Icing is when the defending team shoots the puck down the
goal line from their defensive goal, without it touching
anyone
SHOOTOUT
If the game is still tied after the overtime period,a shootout
ensues.Each team will have 3 shooters,the team with the
best out of three shots will win the game.
OFFSIDES
Players must not enter the offensive zone ahead of
puck.
FACEOFFS
Used to restart play after stoppages,with players from
each team facing off at the puck drop.
CHECKING
Legal body contact is allowed, but some hits can lead
to penalties
PENALTIES
Players can be penalized for various
infractions,resulting in time spent in the penalty box.
PENALTIES
Tripping- Is where the player is brought down using the
body or stick.
Slashing- Is when a player is struck or could have been
struck by a deliberate blow from stick.
Hooking- Is where the blade of the stick is turned in and
used to slow down or unbalanced a player.
Charging- Is where a player checks,runs, or jump another
player.
Interference- Is where a player interfere or impedes the
progress of an opponent.
Roughing- Is called unduly rough play,and is often called
scuffles and minor altercations.
