CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Nutrient solutions are liquid mixtures that contain water and essential plant
nutrients. Nutrient solution temperatures may reach injuriously high levels during
summers, or damaging low levels in winters, which strongly influence growth and
survival of the whole plant. Nutrient solution can be prepared from various sources, such
as chemical fertilizers, organic materials, or wastewater.

The composition and concentration of nutrient solution depend on the type and
stage of the plant, the environmental conditions, and the system design. Nutrient solution
must be monitored and adjusted regularly to maintain the optimal pH, electrical
conductivity, and oxygen level for plant health and productivity. Nutrient
solution temperatures may reach injuriously high levels during summers, or damaging
low levels in winters, which strongly influence growth and survival of the whole plant.
This parameter not only depends on solar radiation and aerial temperature but also on the
characteristics of the system. In general, soilless systems are exposed to larger daily
variations in root temperatures than soil systems (Kafkafi, 2001)

Eggplant. (Solanum melongena), tender perennial plant of the nightshade family

(Solanaceae), grown for its edible fruits. Eggplant requires a warm climate and has been
cultivated in its native Southeast Asia since remote antiquity. A staple in cuisines of the
Mediterranean region, eggplant figures prominently in such classic dishes as the Greek
moussaka, the Italian eggplant parmigiana, and the Middle Eastern relish baba ghanoush.
It is also frequently served as a baked. grilled, fried, or boiled vegetable and is used as a
garnish and in stews. The plant is closely related to the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)
and the potato (S. tuberosum) as well as to several poisonous nightshades.
Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a nonwoody annual plant with purple to white
flowers along with enlarged lobed leaves with bushy foliage that grows with maximum
height of 120cm. Eggplant is mainly grown for vegetables and medicinal purposes. The
eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is one of the most important solanaceous crops and is
widely cultivated across the world for its fruits, mainly used as a vegetable. Wild
relatives of eggplant have been shown to be important sources for transferring tolerance
to biotic and abiotic stresses and other agronomically important traits in cultivated
background
Eggplants are rich in fiber and antioxidants. A serving of eggplant can provide at
least 5% of a person's daily requirement of fiber, copper, manganese, B-6, and thiamine.
It also contains other vitamins and minerals. In addition, eggplants are a source of
phenolic compounds that act as antioxidants.
Objectives of the study

Generally, the study will be conducted to help farmers have knowledge on what nutrient
solution is the best for crops.

Specifically, it will be conducted to:

1.measure the growth of the plant in weeks/months using different nutrient solution
2.determine what will happen to the plant using the nutrient solution (random kind)
3.to have knowledge on what is the best nutrient solution for plant.

Scope and limitations

Scope
This study focuses on the effect of different nutrient solution on the growth of an
Eggplant (Solanum Melongena L.). This research is all about looking for a nutrient
solution suitable for soil based plants. We will be Experimenting by using different kinds
of nutrient solution on Eggplants (Solanum Melongena L.)
Limitation
This study will not cover the other problems that are not necessarily connected on
identifying the nutrient solution suitable for soil based plants. We will not exceed on our
purpose.

Locale of the Study

The study will take place at Celtino hatchery, where the farm environment offers
numerous advantages for our experiments with the Eggplant (Solanum melongena). This
farm proves to be an excellent choice for our research.
certain areas of the farm have naturally incorporated animal manure into the soil, making
it exceptionally suitable for planting.
The study will focus on the growth of the Eggplant (Solanum Melongena), with the
researchers dedicating A great deal of attention to it's growth.
