CV Builder Make the right first impression...
Introduction The research suggests that 33% participants don’t know what
It is time to take an online CV Builder application to the next
level: a) to provide grammar and spelling check option b) to
provide a flavour of career service.
Methods
A research carried out to find people’s view on CV writing and
CV Builder. The research’s main focus was on these topics:
a) difficulties in CV development, b) use of CV builder and c)
CV development process. This project used ‘design and
creation’ strategy for research. In the project two data
generation tools was used: a) Online Survey (self-
administered) b) Semi-structure Interview.
Results
The result of research shows that, 45% participants would
like to use career service to create a CV, 18% prefers CV
Builder and 36% would like to use both. Based on the survey
response, profile statement and work experience are two
most difficult parts of CV writing (figure 1).

to include and what not to include in the work
experience section. Some respondents had a problem with
the length of the CV. Because they had wide experience in
their field and it makes difficult to put all in 2 or 3 pages.
The study also shows that most of the time recent graduate
forgets to insert projects, software skills and portfolio links
into their CV.

The three most common reasons for CVs to be rejected
identified by Adecco (2014) are also addressed by the
prototype: Users are prompted to include a list of skills,
Users are guided to provide an appropriate email address
and the length of the CV is restricted to two pages.

As a result of the research a web based prototype was
developed. The two brand new services of this application
are: 1) analysis of Job requirement and 2) grammar check
which is not available in existing CV Builders (figure 2 and 3).
Third party evaluation showed that user really liked new
functionalities which is different from existing CV Builders.
Conclusion
This is a prototype of CV Builder web application. It
developed based on the research result. The two new
functions of application are analysis of Job requirement
and grammar check option
