Hanbok Wrap Skirt Instruction - EN
The Hanbok Wrap Skirt is a reversible pleated wrap skirt that offers a modern twist on a classic
design, inspired by the centuries-old traditional elegance of the Hanbok. This versatile skirt
works beautifully in a variety of occasions from casual outings to special events. Depending on
whether you want a gracefully flowy skirt or want to emphasize the structured pleats, your choice
in fabric will help you achieve the look you desire.
SUGGESTED FABRIC
This pattern is designed to cater to your fabric preferences and can work with a variety of
lightweight to medium-weight woven fabrics such as:
- Linen: Ideal for a breathable and comfortable skirt with a relaxed drape.
- Cotton: Provides a classic and versatile option, perfect for everyday wear.
- Silk: Adds a touch of luxury and sheen to your skirt, perfect for special occasions.
- Seasonal Woven Fabrics: Explore seasonal options for a unique and stylish twist.
For a flowy skirt look, we recommend selecting fabrics with more drape, such as chiffon, rayon,
or jersey.
To accentuate the pleated details of your skirt, we recommend using more structured woven
fabrics, such as cotton twill, denim, or jacquard.

PREPARATION
Pre-wash and dry all your fabrics as this will prevent your garment from shrinking.
We recommend you read the instructions thoroughly before sewing.
SIZING (INCHES/CM)
When selecting your size, choose the option that accommodates the larger measurement between your waist and hip. If
you find yourself between sizes, round to the nearest size and select that.

SKIRT WIDTH: This measurement is based on the standard width of most fabrics. However, it might
feel too voluminous for some preferences. If that's the case, feel free to reduce the width and use
less fabric to achieve the desired look and feel.
SKIRT LENGTH: The default length of the pattern is designed to reach just below the knee for
someone who is 5'4" (163cm) tall. Please take this into consideration and adjust the length shorter
or longer as needed to suit your preference.
The Hanbok Wrap Skirt is designed to showcase your distinguishing pleats, wrapped around uniquely by two long
ties. These ties are designed to pass through a discreet opening from the inside, to be wrapped around your waist in
a variety of ways. How and where you choose to tie the ties can significantly influence the final look of your Hanbok
Wrap Skirt, enabling you to craft a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects your individual style.
SEWALONG VIDEO
We have kept the written instructions as simple as possible as we have created a sewalong video that takes you
through each step of the process of creating your Hanbok Wrap Skirt.

PATTERN PRINTING
When it comes to printing the pattern at home, we offer two versions. The first is a standard version that is 13 pages
and includes all pattern pieces. The second is a paper-saving option and provides the measurements for the ties,
waistband, and skirt pieces instead of the pieces themselves. Select the option that works best for you. For the second
option, you don’t need to print anything, helping you save paper and time.
The files are organized in layers, allowing you to select and print your specific size as needed.

PREPARATION
1. (Optionally) Apply fusible interfacing to the wrong side on two WAISTBAND pieces and set
aside.
TIES
2. Fold one short end of the TIE and fold in half lengthwise and press. Unfold and fold the
long edges to the centre and press. Fold the TIE in half lengthwise and press. Sew. Repeat for
the other TIE.
If you prefer wider TIES, fold each TIE in half lengthwise with right sides facing, sew one
short end and the long end, and turn right side out. Repeat for the other TIE.
Now you have two long TIES , both with one-side open and one-side closed.
WAISTBAND I
3. Leave the opening as marked or slightly bigger than the TIES and sew the short eges of the
two interfaced WAISTBANDS RST. Repeat for the uninterfaced WAISTBANDS.
When using two distinct fabrics for a reversible version, sew the same fabrics together during
this step.
4. Press the seams open. Fold (slightly smaller than the seam allowance) one long edge of the
interfaced WAISTBAND and press. Set it aside.
SKIRT
5. To make a reversible SKIRT, when joining the SKIRT panels, we will sew a flat felled seam.
Layer two SKIRT panels, right side facing, showing 3/8” of the bottom panel and sew 3/8”
away from the edge of the upper panel.
6. Wrap the shorter seam with the longer seam and press. Edgestitch.
WAISTBAND / SKIRT : I want you to be creative with the pleats and the length.
The following instructions are flexible and adaptable to fit your desired style. >>

8. Pin the uninterfaced WAISTBAND and SKIRT at both ends RST. Pin the double-folded edge
of the SKIRT to 3/8” (1cm) away from the edge of the WAISTBAND.
9. To make the pleats, mark the SKIRT at 1-inch intervals. You can either use the notches
provided in the pattern or draw them manually yourself.
*It’s perfectly normal if the lengths don’t align exactly.—I designed it that way on purpose.
This means you aren’t bound to a specific skirt width. Feel free to adjust the width of the skirt
according to your preference for volume or based on the width of the fabric you’re using.
Feel free to get creative here! You don’t have to meticulously space out each pleat at perfectly
even intervals. As long as they align in terms to the WAISTBAND in length, your pleats will
come out beautifully unique and full of character. You have the flexibility to adjust the skirt
width to your preference, adding or subtracting fabric as needed to achieve your desired
volume. There should be no issues with making these adjustments.
Beginner Tip: When creating pleats, start from one side. Continue making pleats across, and
you’ll notice a flat section of the skirt for a few inches on the other side. When you wear the
skirt, this flat portion will be concealed beneath the pleats, ensuring no flat areas are visible
and the skirt doesn’t appear overly bulky.
WAISTBAND / TIES
13. Pin one TIES to the middle of the short edge of the interfaced WAISTBAND RST and repeat
for the other TIE on the other edge. Baste them in place.
WAISTBAND II
14. Pin the WAISTBANDS RST, making sure TIES are between the two layers. Sew.
15. Trim the seam and turn the WAISTBAND right side out. If the corner is too bulky, clip the
corners. Press.
17. Sew around the tie opening. Using a short stitch length makes it easier.
HEM
18. Finish the SKIRT with a double-fold hem to ensure its reversibility. You can trim the panels
if you prefer a shorter length, and you can even add panels if you would like a longer SKIRT.
