Opinion

➢a statement that involves the person’s feelings


and emotion
➢cannot be proven
➢contains signal words such as best, worst,
beautiful, outstanding, or should
Opinion
➢Uses signal phrases when expressing an opinion
such as In my opinion…, I feel that…, I would say
that…, It seems to me that…, speaking
personally…, as I see it…, well, if you ask me…, in
my view…, I think that… and for me…
Examples:
•I think I will pass the test.
•Sarah Geronimo exuded an outstanding
performance during her concert.
Assertion
➢a statement that is somewhat true
and somewhat false
➢a confident and forceful statement of
fact or belief
Examples:
•The price of rice worsens the poverty in the
country.
•The ongoing war between Hamas and Israel
prolongs the suffering of their people.
Always remember!
➢ A statement of opinion starts with signal
phrases such as I think or I feel and uses
signal words like best, worst, beautiful,
outstanding, or should
➢ On the other hand, a statement of
assertion does not begin with signal
phrases or words. It is considered a
declaration as if it were true even it may
not be.
