Strategies

Introduction to To start, I will ask students to grab their whiteboards, markers, erasers, and laptops and go back
Lesson to their seat.
(5 mins)

- I will show the students our schedule for the day and reintroduce our new concept from
yesterday.
- I will remind them that we need to look out for the bossy ‘e’ at the end of a word so we
know if we need to use the long vowel sound. I will then remind them that ‘g’ spells /g/
but when put in front of the bossy e it will spell /j/ like in cage. I will then put a word on
the board and have them tap out the sounds they see. Once I click my clicker they will say
the word. We will repeat this with 3 more words before moving on to the next thing on
our agenda.
- We will now be moving on to word work. The students will open their laptops and open
the word work mat. I will build the word mice and have the students build it on their own
Lesson
boards. I will walk around to see how they’re doing and when I see that a majority of
(30 mins)
students have the word built, I will tell them to tap it out and say the word when I click
my clicker. I will then continue this process with the words rice, race, pace, page, wage,
cage, age, sage, and stage. I will then have students close their laptops.
- We are now moving on to our irregular words. I will put the word “could” on the board,
ask them how many heart parts there are and ask them to say the words when I click my
clicker. I will go through and review each of our irregular words (could, would, should,
one, once) . I will then write the word ‘once’ on the board and have them write it 5 times
on their whiteboards.
- For the last part of our UFLI lesson, I will have students practice reading with me. We will
read “Did Bruce like the rice?”, “The mice in that cage are huge.” and then “The stage is a
place where Grace shines!” I will then tell them that I would like them to write a
sentence. I will read out loud “Do not change a thing.” I will have them repeat it then I will
have them count out how many words are in the sentence and begin writing.

- We usually have a decodable passage to go over after the lesson where we read through
Guided Practice
a passage together and sentence by sentence we find all of the words that contain the
(10 mins)
/ge/ combination.

Closing/ Transition I will have students put their decodable passages into their book bins, put away their supplies and
Out of Lesson have them go back to their seats to begin wordwork.
(5 mins)

Technology Students will use their laptops and I will have a presentation on the board.
