Location: Federal Civic Center
Crime/Incident: Arson
Date/Time Occurred: estimated 1:00 AM, January 20th, 2024
Date/Time Reported: 7:00 AM, January 20th, 2024
Location: 201A, Park Lane, Sector 7
Disorder: Pyromania
Details of the Incident:
On the 20th of January 2024, in the early hours of the day, an empty residence was set on fire. The property
belongs to the Shubata family. The crime was not discovered until 7:00 AM, when the caretaker arrived. The
residence was uninhabited, and its location is isolated from the main city; hence the fire went unseen, and
unreported until several hours after the fact.
While the fire was initially blamed on faulty electrical wiring, the preliminary investigation revealed evidence
that it may have been arson. Traces of accelerants and other materials used in Molotov cocktails were found in
the charred remains.
Upon questioning the Shubata family, a possible suspect was found: Prithi Deva, a lawyer whose firm had a
contract with the Shubata family’s business. The contract was canceled on unfavorable terms a week prior to the
crime. The Shubata family members interviewed maintained that Ms. Deva had displayed erratic behaviour, and
displayed signs of substance use.
The only other details of note are:-
-The remains and patterns of ignition found on the scene share similarities with other arsons in the city over the
past six months. All of these fires were set on uninhabited buildings, but not all residential.
-A search of Ms. Deva’s residence revealed possession of substances.
-Ms. Deva denied involvement in the case until the search was conducted and the stated evidence found. She
maintains that her behaviour and subsequent actions were caused by her alleged pyromania.
Chronology of Events:
20th January 1:00 AM- Estimated time of the arson
20th January 9:30 AM- Police investigate the scene and gather evidence
22nd January 6:00 PM- Ms. Deva is questioned; search warrant filed
