– Use for the data exchange with
OPC functionality to the automation devices
e.g. SIMATIC
– OPC Server software package included

– Example
A Simatic S7-400 is connected to a SICAM PAS Station Unit through a CP1613
and via the Ethernet. The communication used between the S7-400 and the
CP1613 is the S7 protocol. An OPC server for the CP1613 card is available
from SIMATIC. In this way data can be exchanged with the SICAM PAS OPC
Client. Ethernet, S7-Protocol

What is a General Interrogation ?

A GI consists of a GI-command sent down from the higher level system (in our example the
PAS system) to the lower level RTU (in our example the eRTU) and a GI-response from the
lower level system.
The response from the eRTU mainly contains a process image of the switchgear.

Comparison of Standard HW & SW with SICAM PAS I

Power Automation
Progress. It‘s that simple.

Standard HW / SW (Windows XP) SICAM PAS enhanced Solution

Standard PCs are more sensitive to surge SICAM PAS uses SIEMENS Industrial PCs
effects (IPC) compliant with highest industrial
standards

Low reliability of PC, e.g. hard disk failures SICAM PAS uses IPC & flash memory
no watchdog drives, i.e. no moving parts such as hard
disks or fans
SIEMENS IPC has a built in watchdog
Lower reliability of Windows based SICAM PAS can run under Windows XP
systems Embedded (WXPE) OS, i.e. the OS is
specially tailored for the SA application
Power Supply failure w/o proper shut SICAM PAS Station uses the enhanced

What is IEC 61131 ?

IEC61131 z International Standard for programming of

programmable logic controllers (PLC)
z Part 3 of the standard defines usable
programming languages:
– Instruction list (IL)
– Structured text (ST)
– Functional block language (CFC)
– Ladder diagram (LL)
– Sequential function chart (SFC)
z Further Standard parts define general information about
PLCs, requirements on equipment and tests, guidelines for
users, communication

Basics IEC 61131-3

IEC61131 z There are 3 „components“ for programming, the so-called

POEs (program organisation unit):
– Program (PROG)
– Function Block (FB)
– Function (FUN)
z Each POE is structured into a declaration part and in a source
code part
z All variables are defined in the declaration part (internal,
external, I/O variables)
z The actual programming code is in the source code part,
where the declared variables can be used
->declaration is necessary for all variables !

What are programs ?

IEC61131 z Main program (multiple main programs

are possible)

z top level execution unit in a PLC

z for example a CFC chart or

a ST program

z Starts with the keyword PROGRAM

and ends with END_PROGRAM
(These are not directly visible in SICAM PAS,
is internally managed by the Editor)

z Be careful with re-naming of programs !

Page 5

What are functions ?

IEC61131 z Functions are subroutines

z They will be invoked/called by a program

z Functions have input values

z Functions only have one return value

z Functions can use internal variables,

their values are deleted after leaving the function
z Standard functions are already defined in the Standard
z Starts with the keyword FUNCTION and ends with
END_FUNCTION (not visible in PAS)

z No recursion !

What are function blocks ?

IEC61131 z Function blocks are subroutines

z They will be invoked/called by a program

z Function blocks have input and output(return) values

z Function blocks have a memory

-> Declaration of function blocks (see variables)

z Function blocks can use internal variables, their values can be preserved
after leaving
z Standard function blocks are already defined in the Standard

z SICAM PAS CFC blocks are function blocks

z Starts with the keyword FUNCTIONBLOCK and ends with

END_FUNCTIONBLOCK (not visible in PAS)

z no recursion!

VAR_INPUT x x input values
VAR_OUTPUT x output values
VAR_IN_OUT x I/O values
VAR_EXTERNAL x external variables
VAR_GLOBAL x global variables

Declaration of variables in 61131-3 (2)

z Syntax of a declaration:
IEC61131

<NAME> : <TYPE> := <Initial value> ;

z Declaration of variables always between VAR, VAR_xxx and

END_VAR
z No hardware addresses in SICAM PAS

Access to different variables

IEC61131 z In SICAM PAS there is a special global program for

interfacing variables. This program does not include source
code -> global data file „pasglob.poe“

z Programs are able to access global variables of other

programs using VAR_EXTERNAL
-> like this it is possible to access interface variables

z Function blocks are able to access global variables of their

program via VAR_EXTERNAL
-> better with input/output variables

z Functions do not have access to global variables

Definition of own datatypes

IEC61131 z It is possible to create your own datatype combining existing

datatypes

z Create a type file in SICAM PAS

z SICAM PAS interface variables have their own type:

PASDATABLOCK, PASCOMMANDBLOCK, PASGROUP

z Example:

TYPE
State : BYTE:=4;
END_TYPE

-> New type „State“

Arrays and Structures

IEC61131 z It is possible to define an array variable

field1 : ARRAY[1..10] OF BOOL;

->Access via field1[1], field1[2], ...

z It is possible to define a structured variable

Test1 : STRUCT
Value1 : BOOL;
Value2 : BYTE;
END_STRUCT;

-> Access via Test1.Value1, Test1.Value2

z Both possibilities also work with type definitions

Write your own function blocks

Own FB z Why is it necessary to write own function blocks?

– Save functionality for multiple use
– Clearness during programming
– Functionality has to be written / changed only once
– Import/Export – possibility among projects
– Possibility of your own engineering solutions
z What do I have to do to write own function blocks?
– Define task of a functional module
– Define input/output values
– Define internal variables
– Writing of program code
– Test the function block

SICAM PAS and ST

PAS and ST
z SICAM PAS already contains Firmware FBs
z These FBs can be used in your own FBs
z Interface-variables have their own datatype in PAS:
– PASDATABLOCK
– PASCOMMANDBLOCK
– PASGROUP
z These interface-types are structures with one element, a
pointer
z Interface-variables must have a constant value!!!

Declaration of variables

Each Input is a PAS data structure

The Output is also a data structure

We use 3 times a SASS function block to read the

3 messages
And once a CRI block to derive the resultant
message

We use boolean values for all the inputs and for

the output as well for easier programming and
diagnostic reasons

Interoperability does not mean Interchangeability

Interoperability
the ability of two or more IEDs from the same vendor, or from
different vendor, to exchange information and to use that
information for correct execution of specific functions

Interchangeability
the ability to replace a device supplied by one manufacturer
with a device supplied by another manufacturer, without
making change to the other elements in the system

What is a Trace Function ?

• With a specified trace the PAS system creates a text file with detailed
internal data for a certain application.
• This function is mainly used to find out unidentified errors in the
parameterization as well as in the system software.
• The text file is usually sent to the customer support center to be evaluated
by system experts.

• To create such a trace files we need two programs, DSITest and

TraceControlCenter.

How to make a Server a DIP

The decision to configure a computer as Server or DIP is made during the PAS
software setup.
A computer which is already set up to be a Server cannot be a DIP !
So we have to uninstall PAS software, which is again task of the setup
