    To prepare a microscope slide for analysis, a thin sample of tissue is placed on a slide and water is added to help mount the sample. Iodine solution is used to stain the cells to make them more visible. A cover slip is lowered onto the slide using a mounting needle to protect the sample and allow viewing under the microscope.
