master the existing health related laws. The scope of this module permits it to be
used in many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the
diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the

What is It

Existing health related laws.

1. Consumer Act- provides for the regulation of products and services being sold and offered in
the country. Republic Act No. 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines has three
objectives (Galves Tan et, al 2009)
a. Protect the interest of the consumer
b. Promote his/her general welfare
c. Establish standards of conduct for business and industry
2. Traditional and Alternative Medicines Act (TAMA) or Consumer Act, Republic Act 8423. The
Act provisions established the Philippines Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health care
or PITAHC, to accelerate the development of the said healthcare in the country. It identifies
scientifically proven herbs as medicinal plants.
3. Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act otherwise known as Republic Act No. 8504 of
1998. The Act provides for education and information dissemination in various institutions
and agencies, safe practice and procedures (testing, screening, and couselling).
4. Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and Tobacco Regulation Act is the Republic Act no.
9165. Provides for the regulation of narcotic and other related substances being
sold/imported in the country.
5. Cyber Crime Prevention Act mandated Republic Act No. 10175. The prohibition of cybersex,
child pornography, unsolicited commercial communications and computer related identity
thief.
6. Anti Child Pornography Act or Republic Act No. 9775 defines the crime of child pornography,
it protects from any malicious act online
7. National Blood Services or Republic Act of No. 7719, aims to promote and encourage
voluntary blood donation by the citizenry, provide for adequate, safe and affordable and
equitable distribution of blood and blood products.
8. Anti Hazing Law or Republic Act No. 8949, the act penalizes those who will go too far during
initiation rights where in the applicant is subjected to severe physical and emotional pain and
suffering.
9. National Environmental Awareness and Education Act or Republic Act 9512, provides for the
inclusion of environmental education programs in various national institutions.
10. Seat Belts Use Act of 1999 or Republic Act No. 8750, penalizes vehicular users who will not
wear safety belts while on the road.
11. Anti Drunk and Drugged Driving Law or Republic Act No. 10586, penalizes those who caught
driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, and other similar substances.
