Cycle 4 Day 1 – October 2021

I. Learning Objective:

In a 60-minute period, pupils will be able to:

1. describe how earthquakes happen
2. describe the changes on the earth’s surface as a result of earthquakes

II. Learning Content

A. Topic: Earthquake
B. Ignatian Value: Magis – Precision
C. Resources: Materials (Refer to CAS),
D. Skills: making a model, inferring, communicating, observing

III. Learning Experience

A. Preliminaries
1. Review ( ACTIVATING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE.)
-When was the last time you experienced an earthquake?

2. Motivation: (Think-Share)
Show a video of the earthquake that happened in Ateneo GS during their Field
Demonstration.
Where were you when this quake happened?
How did your schoolmates and parents react to the situation?

3. Preview: State the objective for the day

4. Opportunity to ask questions: Pupils will formulate their own question/s based
on the given objective. They will write their question on the google docs.

B. Lesson Proper: Cooperative Learning

1. Pre-lab: Giving precautionary measures

2. Lab Proper: ACTIVITY : Earthquake Simulation Activity (Video

Presentation only)
Please refer to CAS for the procedure

3. Post-lab discussion: Discussion of answers to the activity

What does each item in the activity represent?

Wooden Object
Elastic Band
Sand Paper
Movement of the
Block
Guide Questions:
 What is the energy possessed by the rubber band?
 What is the energy represented by the moving block?
 How does this model represent how earthquakes happen?
 Where does it occur?
 Making conclusions: What is an earthquake and how does it occur?

4. Connecting to Broader Aspect: APPLICATION

With the recent Earthquakes in the Philippines most especially in Mindanao,
Engineers right now design the structure of the building that can withstand the
strong earthquakes to lessen or avoid damages. If you become an engineer
someday, what will be the design of your building? ACTION

5. Ignatian Value/ Reflection:

What is the importance of building such a structure? Why is it important to
consider the design of a building?

6. Action
Students should be able to understand how earthquakes happen and she/he
can share it with a friend or a family member

7. Formative Assessment: Google Form

8. Generalization (ABSTRACTION)
