General : IN CASE OF SERIOUS OR PERSISTENT CONDITIONS, CONSULT

A DOCTOR OR CALL FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL AID.
Inhalation : In case of exposure to intense concentrations of vapours, fumes or
spray, transport the person away from the contaminated zone, keep
warm and allow to rest.
If breathing is difficult: call a doctor and apply mechanical ventilation
immediately.
Ingestion : Consult a doctor.
Do not induce vomiting to avoid the risk of aspiration into the
respiratory tract. Allow the person to rest.
Skin contact :. Immediately remove all soiled or stained clothing.
Wash immediately with plenty of water and soap
Eye contact : Wash immediately in copious amounts of water, keeping eyelids apart
for at least 15 minutes and consult a specialist.
Protective equipment for first-aiders : Personal breathing apparatus must be worn when operating in
confined premises.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

Extinguishing media : SUITABLE

Foam, CO2, powder, possibly water spray (preferably water containing a
wetting agent).

NOT RECOMMENDED

FDS N° : 2011-001 Version: 3.0 Date : 12 / 01 / 2011

Simultaneous use of foam and water on the same surface is to be avoided

as water destroys the foam.
Specific fire-fighting methods : Arrange the machinery and equipment so as to prevent fire from
spreading (retention pits and basins, syphons in the drainage system).
Cool down any tanks and surfaces exposed to fire by spraying abundantly
with water.
Isolate the source of the combustible product; allow to burn out under
supervision or use appropriate fire extinguishers, as applicable.
Specific hazards : Incomplete combustion and thermolysis may produce gases of varying
toxicity such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, various hydrocarbons,
sulphur oxides, aldehydes etc., and soot. These are highly dangerous if
inhaled.
Special care must be taken to avoid the risk of explosion.
Protective measures for fire Use water curtains to protect the personnel.
fighters : An individual breathing apparatus and fire-protective clothing

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal protection : Avoid skin contact with the poured product.

As applicable in view of the risk of exposure, wear hydrocarbon-proof protective
clothing, gloves, goggles, boots, and an insulated breathing apparatus (if vapour
inhalation is a risk)
After spillage / leakage : Design installations so as to prevent water and ground pollution.
Protect drains, water systems and low-lying areas against possible release with
suitable absorbants and barriers to minimize the risk of pollution.
Protect environmentally sensitive areas and water resources.
In case of spillage, contact the competent authorities if the situation cannot be
brought under control rapidly and efficiently. and also if there has been
contamination of the ground or of the vegetation, and if the product has entered
the sewage system or streams, rivers or waterways.
Spill cleanup methods : Recovery:
Use mechanical means such as pumps, skimmers and absorbent materials.
Contain and collect the spilled product with sand or any other inert absorbent
material.
Preserve the waste in closed and sealed recipients.
Dispersant
Apply approved chemical dispersant product for offshore spill response.
Elimination:
Dispose of waste in compliance with regulations.
Hand over contaminated materials to an approved collector
Do not discard to sewers.
Prevention of secondary Warn all persons within proximity of the risk of fire and of explosion.
risks : Remove all sources of ignition.
Cut off the electric power supply if this operation causes no sparks in the area
containing vapours from the product.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING :
Prevention of user In general, never use a naked flame near the storage area without first
exposure: evaluating the risks and taking the necessary precautions. Never carry out
welding operations on empty tanks that have not been degassed.

Handle away from any source of ignition (open flame and sparks) and heat (hot
manifolds or casings). Operate only on cold and degassed reservoirs in
ventilated premises (to avoid risk of explosion).
Precautions : WHILE MOVING THE PRODUCT: to prevent risks related to static electricity,
ensure that the machinery, equipment and tanks are properly earthed, prohibit
splash loading and ensure that the product is poured slowly, particularly at the
beginning of the operation.
To minimize the risk of fire, design installations so as to avoid: prevent
splashing and leaking of crude oil.
Avoid breathing in vapor, fumes or mists.
Do not eat or drink or smoke during use.
Avoid extended and repeated contact with the skin as this may cause skin
conditions, which may also be aggravated by minor injuries or by contact with
soiled clothing. Remove any soiled or splashed clothing immediately.
After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap.
Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents. Use only hydrocarbon-resistant
containers, joints, pipes etc...

STORAGE :

- Recommended use/restrictions: Raw material for industry and refineries.
- Hazardous concentrations of hydrogen sulfide gas can accumulate in storage and rundown tanks,
marine vessels compartments or other confined spaces. When opening valves or dome covers, stand
upwind, keep as far from the opening as possible and avoid breathing any gases or vapors.
- H2S fatigues the sense of smell rapidly. The rotten egg odor of H2S disappears quickly, even though
high concentrations are still present.
