B. Technical Information
1. Rationale:
The present situation of our economy is unpredictable due to the high-inflation
rate that affect the basic needs of an individual. Government programs have been
affected primarily because of the effect of COVID 19 pandemic and the strong typhoon “
Odette” that badly hit the entire province of Southern Leyte that include Maasin City.

In line with this the directive of the Department of Agriculture secretary and
President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., instructing the bureaus and attached agencies and
the agriculture department towards a food secured Philippines, the ATI on it’s part
pushes and focuses and enhance food production in every household thus urban
gardening to sustain food security in the country. The activities are in line with the
objective of enhancing food productivity, food supply availability and food price stability.

In response to the aforementioned directive, the ATI-RTC 8 in partnership with


the local government units conducts training on Urban Vegetable production to urban
dwellers to have access to healthy, safe and fresh vegetables in their respective
backyards, verandas, roof tops and designated areas in the barangay, school or
community thru Communal Urban Gardening. Further, this will empower housewives to
adopt the program for household nourishment and as a source of livelihood too. Hence,
this proposal was made to address food security issuse.
2. Objectives:

The general objective of the project is to increase farmer household income by


establishing community-based food garden.

Specific Objective:
a. To be able to enhance knowledge and skills on urban vegetable home garden;
b. To be able to showcase vegetable production technologies;
c. To be able to apply knowledge and skills on urban vegetable gardening to 25
farmer cooperator;
3. Expected Outputs
a. 2 batches of technology training conducted.
b. One (1) unit nursery, tool and stock room.
c. One (1) vermicomposting house with beds.
d. Agricultural inputs provided to communal garden and 25 gardeners.

4. Beneficiary
The beneficiary of this project are the vegetable farmers of Brgy. Badiang
represented by their organization, named: Badiang Farmers Association. A registered
organization at DOLE.

6. Budgetary Requirement/Fund Sourcing/Sharing Scheme

The total budgetary requirement for the proposed project is Php 99,980.00 which
will be sourced out from DA-ATI-8. City Government of Maasin and Badiang
Farmers Association will share in kind thru labor, technical personnel, vehicle and
fuel. See attached annex for detailed cost estimates.
