Background of the Study
Ixora is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. It is the only genus in the
tribe Ixoreae. It consists of tropical evergreen trees and shrubs and holds around 544 species.
Though it is native to the tropical and subtropical areas throughout the world, its center of
diversity is in Tropical Asia. Ixora also grows commonly in subtropical climates in the United
States, such as Florida where it is commonly known as West Indian jasmine. In Thailand, Craib
(1932 and in Craib & Kerr, 1934) enumerated about 38 species and 7 varieties of Ixora in the
Florae Siamensis Enumeratio. Boonbundral (1978) carried out a preliminary study of the genus
Ixora in Thailand with 23 species and 3 varieties. More recently, Chamchumroon (2004a)
revised 29 taxa of Ixora in Thailand followed by notes on two new Ixora species records for
Thailand and a checklist of Ixora in Thailand (Chamchumroon, 2004b, Chamchumroon, 2006).

The banana peel, which has been considered as rubbish and smelly, apparently
contains many chemical elements or compounds that are beneficial to plants. Banana peel waste
belongs to wet organic waste. Organic fertilizer is beneficial to improve agricultural production
both in quality and quantity, reducing environmental pollution, and improving land quality in
sustainable manner. Research conducted by Tuapttinaya et al. showed that, the application of 200
ml/liter liquid fertilizer from banana peel waste had a significant effect on plant height, fresh
tuber weight, tuber diameter, and dry weight onion bulbs. This part of banana has a lot of
benefits because liquid fertilizer from banana peel waste has more potassium content than the
other elements. So, it provides influence on the lower plant organs (tubers). Banana peels contain
15% potassium and 2% higher content of phosphorus than the one in the banana flesh.
Besides containing P and K, banana peels also contains the elements of magnesium, sulfur, and
sodium.
The present study deals with the utilization of Banana fruit peels for the effective growth
and blossom of Ixora plants by mainly focusing on Nitrogen, phosphorus, and Potassium. This
study also aims to create photosynthetic microorganisms using banana fruit peels that make Ixora
grows faster in both flowers and branching.

Objectives
Determine the effectiveness of Banana Peel-Based Liquid fertilizer as a nutrient source
for Ixora growth and blossom. Specifically, it aims to:
1. determine the effectiveness of Banana Peel-Based Liquid fertilizer to the growth of
Ixora such as number of leaves, plant height, and leaf area;
2. determine the effectiveness of Banana Peel-Based Liquid fertilizer to the blossom of
Ixora; and
3. determine the significant difference of the growth and blossom of Ixora using Banana
Peel-Based Liquid fertilizer.

Statement of the Problem

1. What is the effect of Banana Peel-Based Liquid fertilizer to the growth of Ixora in
terms of;
A. number of leaves
B. plant height, and
C. leaf area;
2. What is the effect of Banana Peel-Based Liquid fertilizer to the blossom of Ixora?
3. Is there a significance difference on the growth and blossom of Ixora when Banana
Peel-Based Liquid fertilizer is used?

Hypothesis
There is no a significance difference on the growth and blossom of Ixora when Banana
Peel-Based Liquid fertilizer is used.
