There are 3 types of sentences: Simple, Compound,

Complex:
A subordinating conjunction is a word or phrase that links a dependent clause to an
independent clause.

There are many subordinating conjunctions but the most common are: after,
although, as, as if, because, before, how, if, since, than, though, unless, until, when,
where and while.
*A complex sentence has subordinating conjunctions.

A clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb that
have a relationship. This relationship is crucial; a clause conveys
information about what that subject is or is doing, rather than simply
being a random grouping of words.

And what are coordinating conjunctions?
each of two or more parts of a sentence, often joined by and, or,
but, for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so. That make separate statements
that each have equal importance. In the sentence 'It stopped
raining, and the sun came out', 'It stopped raining' and 'the sun
came out' are both coordinate clauses, joined by the word 'and'.
