Finding the Right School

November 18, 2023

Nusrat, who was 10 years old, couldn't understand why a lady with diabetes
would come regularly to their house for wound dressing. Curious, she asked her
Grandmother if she helped the lady because she liked her. Grandmother, who was a
nurse, explained that it was her responsibility to care for people in need. Nusrat admired
her Grandmother's work and dreamed of becoming a nurse in Ghana. However, after
graduating from high school, Nusrat faced a financial obstacle. Her mother, already
supporting her older sister's education, couldn't afford to help Nusrat become a nurse.

Three years passed, Nusrat shared her dream with her Uncle Nurideen who was
already a nurse. He suggested Valley View University, an affordable institution affiliated
with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Nusrat was hesitant because of her different
religious background. But Uncle Nurideen assured her that Adventist schools were
welcoming and allowed freedom of worship. He shared his positive experiences,
emphasizing the lack of discrimination. Encouraged by her uncle's stories, Nusrat found
a closer Adventist school, the Seventh-day Adventist Nursing and Midwifery Training
College. She enrolled and is now completing her first year. Nusrat appreciates the
inclusive environment, where students of different faiths worship together. She confirmed
to her uncle that there is no discrimination, and Uncle Nurideen was pleased to hear that.

Your offering for the Thirteenth Sabbath will support the Seventh-day Adventist
Nursing and Midwifery Training College to grow. They need new classrooms and dorms
because the college started with 22 students in 2015 and now has 770. There's a high
demand for admission, but the school doesn't have enough space. It's a mission school,
with only 30 percent of students being Adventists, and many students join the church
each year.
