1. Scope
The purpose of this procedure is to streamline and standardize the process of Inspection and Thermal
Imaging of Busways. The scope of the Infrared Scan is limited to the use of the Thermal Imaging Camera to
perform a non-invasive and non-destructive examination. Infrared scanning (IR) accurately identifies the
presence of abnormal heat in electrical systems, which can help predict equipment trouble. This procedure is
applicable to employees, who are involved in the provision of Inspection and Thermal Imaging of Busways..

TUV Austria ensures that a qualified and experienced Inspector is delivering this service with the help of a
Calibrated Infra-red Camera. Inspector shall perform the service taking steps including but not limited to;
• Review the Scope of Work to understand the work volume and Meeting with client focal point to
prepare a schedule.
• Indentifying items, which are to be inspected, with the help of client representative.
• Ensuring removal of protection screens/covers by the client to gain access to the components.
• Ensuring application of full load to Electrical Appliances and Components prior to inspection.
• Comparing the recorded temperature to the temperature range as mentioned below under General
Acceptance / Rejection (Delta T) Criteria for Electrical Equipment.
