1. Scope
The purpose of this procedure is to streamline and standardize the process of Electrode Resistance Test and
Earth Loop Resistance Test .The scope of this procedure is to check the compliance status of Grounding
System. This procedure is applicable to employees, who are involved in the provision of Electrode
Resistance Test and Earth Loop Resistance Test.

4. Procedure
QI ensures that a qualified and experienced Inspector is delivering this service with the help
of a calibrated insulation resistance device. Inspector shall perform the service taking steps including
but not limited to;
• Review the Scope of Work to understand the work volume and Meeting with client focal point to
prepare a schedule.
• Indentifying items, which are to be inspected, with the help of client representative.
• Ensuring removal of protection screens/covers by the client to gain access to the components.
• Inspect the grounding system(s) for conformance with approved design drawings and specifications.
• Inspect the mechanical integrity and quality of all bolted and/or termite welded grounding joints and
connections.
• Inspect and verify the size and type of conductors to conform to the standard requirements.
• Testing Procedure:
DP
DC
• Choose one reference rod (G) as shown in the above figure (Keep all rods connected together).
• Drive auxiliary rods (Potential Rod (P) and Current Rod (C)) into earth.
• Connect the reference rod and auxiliary rods to the testing device
• After finishing all rods, make sure that all rods under test are connected again to measure the overall
network resistance
• The NEC code states that the resistance to ground shall not exceed 25 Ω.
• This is the maximum value of ground resistance and in most applications a much lower ground
resistance is required.
• In table 11.7 this the typical Grounding Resistance Values of Substations for Various Installations
• The procedure should matching with the checklist see the attached checklist
