The following data describes the number of times an airline is late due to weather.
Let n = 17

10. Analysis: Using your calculations, write an analysis for airlines who are delayed due to
carrier delay or weather delay. Is an airline more likely to be delayed due to staffing or
weather? Explain your answer using numerical descriptions and complete sentences
From the calculations, it is clear from the total number of times an airline delay can be
caused by bad weather or staffing. From the frequency totals, the number of outcomes, and
more important, the probabilities of numerous conditions. It is evident enough that staffing is
more likely to cause an airline delay than bad weather. There is an extremely high probability
of 91.7581% for an airline delay to be caused by staffing issue, while just8.2419% of the delay
and late times for the airline are a result of bad weather.
Binomial Probability:
The probability that Southwest Airlines will be delayed due to staffing is p = 0.21.
q=1–p

11. The probability that out of 5 flights Southwest Airlines will have no delays due to
staffing
P ( x=0 ) =0.308
12. The probability that out of 5 flights Southwest Airlines will have 1 delay due to staffing.
P ( x=1 )=0.409
13. The probability that out of 5 flights Southwest Airlines all 5 flights will be delayed due to
staffing.
P ( x=5 )=0.000
14. The probability that out of 5 flights Southwest Airlines will have between 2 and 3 flights
Southwest Airlines.
16. From the graph, how many delayed flights out of 5 have the greatest probability of
occurring?
P ( x=1 )=0.409
