Necessity of Hadith

Necessity of Hadith
Hadith:
“Whatever is attributed to Nabi (‫ )ﷺ‬in terms of words or deeds or silence (over others
actions) or morals or inherited attributes.”
Rules of Hadith (‫)
“Knowledge of principles and rules by which the status (conditions) of Sanad (chain of
narration) and Matan (text) is known in terms of acceptance or rejection.”
Inkar-e-Hadith (‫)
ِ :

➢ Complete rejection of Hadith.

➢ Qur’an is Mubeen, so all the teachings of Islam must only be derived from Qur’an.
➢ Munkreen-e-Hadith are also known as Ahl-e-Qur’an.
➢ “Abdullah Chakralwi” and “Ghulam Ahmed Pervez” are notable Munkar-e-Hadith.

Istakhfaf-e-Hadith (‫)استخفاف حدیث‬

ِ :

➢ Its main proponent was Taqi Ameni.

➢ They challenge the actual authority of Hadith.

They claim that Ilm-e-Hadith only deals with the status of sanad which means that it
has nothing to do with authenticity of text of hadith.

Following of Sunnah )‫(اتباع سنت‬

ِ
Allah has ordered us to follow the teachings of Hazrat Muhamad (‫)ﷺ‬. Following Ayahs clearly
indicate that there is something other than the Qur’an which we are bound to follow i.e. Hadith.

Allah says:
5
“Nor does he speak form (his own) inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed.”
➢ This ayah clearly indicates that all the sayings of Holy Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬are Wahi.
➢ More importantly, there are some direct revelations of Allah which are not part of
Qur’an. That’s why these are not recited and this kind of revelation is known as Wahi-e-Ghair
Matlaw.

Following Ayahs are proof of Wahi-e-Ghair Matlaw:

“We assigned your former direction of prayer only to distinguish those who would
remain faithful to the Messenger.”

The point to note here is that Allah is mentioning that ‘We’ assigned the former direction of
prayer, but it is no where mentioned in the Qur’an where Allah is commanding the Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬
about the direction of the prayer. So how did the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬get this command from Allah?
Certainly, there was a Revelation from Allah upon His Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬other than the Revelation

of the Qur’an through which Allah commanded his Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬about this Commandment and
this is what we term as Non-Recited Revelation which is termed as Hadith.

َ )2

“Allah know that you were deceiving yourselves. So, He has accepted your repentance
and pardoned you. So now you may be intimate with them.”

Similar case is here, Allah had prohibited the Muslims from intimating in Ramadhan, but there
is not even a single verse present in the Qur’an mentioning about this commandment. This
indicates that there were some other revelations on the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬by Allah which are not
written in the Qur’an.

“And when you said to the one on whom Allah bestowed favor and you bestowed favor, “Keep
your wife and fear Allah”, while you concealed within yourself that which Allah is to disclose.
And you feared the people, while Allah has more right that you fear Him. So when Zayd had
no longer any need for her, We married her to you.”

This is again a perfect example.

Interpretation of Qur’an )‫(تشریح قرآن‬

ِ
Allah says:
9
“We have revealed unto thee the Remembrance that thou mayst explain to mankind that
which hath been revealed for them, and that haply they may reflect.”
➢ There are many Ayahs in Qur’an which need interpretation and which we can only
consult form Hadith because the above mentioned Ayah clearly shows that Qur’an was
interpreted by Holy Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬.

Following are some Ayahs which needs interpretation:

10 َ

“And pilgrimage to the House is a duty unto Allah for mankind, for him who can find

14

“The pilgrimage is (in) the well-known months.”

• What is the method of Hajj?
• What are the rites of Hajj?
• What are the known months for Hajj?

“As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands.”
• What is the limit of amount of theft upon which the punishment will be implemented?
• What is the limit of length of hand which will be cut down?

Contradictions in Qur’an
➢ There are some Ayahs in Qur’an which apparently looks contradictory. For example,
Allah says:

16

Necessity of Hadith

“(In the case of) those of you who are about to die and leave behind them wives, they
should bequeath unto their wives a provision for the year without turning them out.”

“Such of you as die and leave behind them wives, they (the wives) shall wait, keeping
themselves apart, four months and ten days.”

➢ When we read these two Ayahs, it seems that these are contradictory. But we also come
to know from another Ayah that there are some Nasikh and Mansokh Ayahs in Qur’an. But it
is impossible to judge which one is Mansokh. Only Hadith will tell us which one is Nasikh or
Mansokh.

It clearly shows if we reject the authority and necessity of Hadith, then we surely be
unable to interpret these Ayahs. So it will lead to doubts in Authority of Qur’an and
ultimately the result is Denial of God.

Conclusion
➢ It is necessary to believe in Sunnah/Hadith because Allah has ordered us to believe in
both Qur’an and Sunnah. Moreover, we’ll be unable to derive rules and regulations of Islam
only from Qur’an.
➢ Following Ayahs shows the Attitude of Munkareen-e-Hadith and ruling of Qur’an
about them:
18

",And, when it is said to them, "Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger"
".you see the hypocrites turning away form you in aversion

“Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers and wish to discriminate
between Allah and His Messengers and say, “We believe in some and disbelieve in others,”
and wish to adopt a way in between. Those are the disbelievers truly. And We have prepared
for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
