REFUTATION
Counterargument Teenagers should be given more homework so they stay out of trouble.
Refutation They claimed that teenagers should be handed extra assignments to keep them out of
trouble.
And this is completely untrue as:
Excessive homework can have negative effects on students' mental and physical
health, leading to stress, anxiety, and exhaustion. It is important to recognize the
importance of balance in students' lives, including time for leisure activities and social
development.

Counterargument I believe that exams should be replaced by other forms of testing. Not all kids do
well on exams. They might get nervous and not do well on the exam.
Refutation They said that exams should be replaced with alternative types of testing as not all
students perform well on tests and they may become worried and perform badly
during the exam.
This is not true because:
+ Exams provide a standardized measure of student knowledge and comprehension,
allowing educators to assess the effectiveness of their teaching methods and identify
areas for improvement
+ Encourage problem-solving skills that are essential for success in higher education
and the workforce.

Counterargument A right to health care could save lives.

Refutation They said that a right to health care offers an opportunity to save lives.

+ This might be expensive and difficult to maintain.

+ While healthcare is important, it is not the only factor that determines health
outcomes, and other factors such as lifestyle choices, social determinants, and
genetics also play a role

Counterargument Beauty contests encourage self-confidence.

Refutation

These kinds of competitions can contribute to negative body image and low self-
esteem

Participants are judged based on their physical attributes rather than their talents or
achievements, sending the message that outward appearance is the most important
aspect of a person’s worth.
This creates pressure for individuals to conform to narrow beauty ideals and leads to
feelings of inadequacy and insecurity.
