PANTOGRAPH FOR TESTING ‐ SVI MODEL PVL2

SVI SPA, during last years, have designed & developed a special pantograph for testing all the
parameters referred to the overhead electrical line.

On the specific, this system allow to check and verify the “horizontal position” of the overhead
cable, the height of the cable in relation to a fixed vertical referement, with an excellent matching
of the vehicle position through the rail (“linking” the measure of the parameter with a clear
position on the railway line).

The system is complete of monitor (located on the driver cab) for the vision of datas during the
testing phase, video‐camera able to record the testing‐steps (located close to the pantograph),
DVD‐system to record the images received by video‐camera, PLC‐system to check the various
testing systems and also datas‐evaluation, notebook with particular program able for recording &
managing excel‐datas, for subsequents stored, diagrams etc.

In the above picture is shown the layout that cover all the informations that are available on the
system. These are easy due to symbols that are commonly used for industrial SW (SIEMENS as
basic system).

The pantograph is made by a commercial device (“SHUNT”) on which are installed some sensors
for testing the horizontal movements of the line with also an encoder useful for the measurement
of the height. A special notebook with two different software alllow to record the datas and to
produce possible graphs.
