R A. Procedure: Starting point for engines with EEC software SCN 17 and above.

NOTE : For A5 engines that are pre-EEC software SCN 16 (SB

____
V2500-ENG-73-0170), only stalls/surges greater than 2 seconds
duration will be indicated on the ECAM by a warning ENG 1 STALL.
Any stalls/surges that recover within 2 seconds may be audible and
indicated by an unselected continuous ignition caption on the
lower ECAM panel, although no warning will be set, and it may not
be immediately possible to identify which engine has stalled.

For A5 engines that have EEC software SCN 16, only stalls/surges
greater than 2 seconds duration will be indicated on the ECAM by a
warning ENG 1 STALL. Any stalls/surges that recover within 2
seconds may be audible and indicated by an unselected continuous
ignition caption on the lower ECAM panel, although no warning will
be set, and it may not be immediately possible to identify which
engine has stalled. However, all stalls/surges that recover within
2 seconds will be recorded with a class 3 message VSV MECH/BLD
VLV/LPC1, to identify which engine has stalled.

For A5 engines that are post-EEC software SCN 17 (SB

V2500-ENG-73-0184), all stalls/surges will be indicated on the
ECAM by a warning ENG 1 STALL regardless of the duration of the
stall/surge.

(1) Check the aircraft Technical Logs for crew observation of the
stall/surge tall/surge felt or heard by the crew, or parameter
fluctuations on the flight deck).

(a) If there is no crew confirmation of the stall/surge, then

continue with this procedure.

(b) If there is crew confirmation of the stall/surge, then the

troubleshooting procedure in section 4.B must be carried out.

(2) Examine the inlet, exhaust and bleed valves for foreign material or
evidence of internal engine damage.

(a) If foreign material or internal damage is present then perform a

borescope inspection of the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-
012), (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-013), (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-
200-014), (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-015), (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-
00-200-016), (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-017).

1
_ If any damage is outside of limits, reject the engine.

2
_ If any damage is not outside of the limits, continue with this
procedure.

(b) If foreign material or internal damage is not present, continue
with this procedure.

(3) Check the CFDS or engine records for ENG 1 STALL ECAM messages during
the last 10 flights.

(a) If any messages are found, check the aircraft Technical Logs for
crew confirmation of the stall/surge.

1
_ If there is crew confirmation of the stall/surge, then the
troubleshooting procedure in section 4.B must be carried out,
from step (2).

2
_ If there is no crew confirmation of the stall/surge, then
continue with this procedure.

(b) If no messages are found, then continue with this procedure.

(4) Check the CFDS or engine records for ENG 2 STALL ECAM messages during
the last 10 flights (checking the history of the other engine).

(a) If any message are found, check the aircraft Technical Logs for
crew confirmation of the stall/surge.

1
_ If there is crew confirmation of the stall/surge, then the
troubleshooting procedure in section 4.B must be carried out,
from step (2).

2
_ If there is no crew confirmation of the stall/surge, then the
troubleshooting procedure in section 4.B must be carried out,
but this can be deferred until the next convenient opportunity
or the next A check, whichever is soonest.

(b) If no messages are found, then the troubleshooting procedure in

section 4.B must be carried out, but this can be deferred until
the next convenient opportunity or the next A check, whichever is
soonest.

NOTE : A noise from the aircraft may be observed by the flight

____
crew and reported as a suspected stall/surge, when the
noise actually had another cause. In this case no ECAM
warning will be set. Therefore, for a flight crew reported
stall/surge with no accompanying ECAM warning, then to
assist in identifying the cause of the noise and to
confirm whether a real stall/surge occured, step 4.A.2
should be carried out to inspect the engine followed by
step 4.B.11. If nothing is found, no further
troubleshooting is required.

B. Procedure: Starting point for engines with pre-EEC software SCN 17, and
continuation point for engines with EEC software SCN 17.

NOTE : A noise from the aircraft may be observed by the flight crew and
____
reported as a suspected stall/surge, when the noise actually had
another cause. In this case no ECAM warning will be set.
Therefore, for a flight crew reported stall/surge with no
accompanying ECAM warning, a FADEC interrogation should be carried
out to find out if Class 3 message VSV MECH/BLD VLV/LPC1 and fault
acronym PBSTL has been set (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-869-002). If
this Class 3 message is recorded, then this troubleshooting
procedure should be continued. If there is no Class 3 message
recorded, then to assist in identifying the noise and to confirm
whether a real stall/surge occured, step 4.A.2 should be carried
out to inspect the engine followed by step 4.B.11. If nothing is
found, no further troubleshooting is required.

If the Class 3 message VSV MECH/BLD VLV/LPC1 is found by

maintenance personnel through a routine check of Class 3 messages,
then the message should be troubleshot using procedure 4.A.

NOTE : Depending on operational constraints, it may be advisable to carry

____
out the HPC borescope procedure as the first step of
troubleshooting, in order to assess engine serviceability as soon
as possible.

(1) Examine the inlet, the exhaust and the bleed valves for foreign
material or evidence of internal engine damage.

(a) If foreign material or internal damage is present then perform a

borescope inspection of the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-
012), (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-013), (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-

00-200-016), (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-017).

1
_ If any damage is outside of limits, reject the engine.

2
_ If any damage is not outside of limits, continue with this
procedure.

(b) If foreign material or damage is not present, continue with this

procedure.

(2) Carry out Operational Test of the FADEC System (Ref. AMM TASK 73-22-
00-710-040).

(a) Address any related CFDS messages or EEC fault codes found.

____
troubleshooting steps (4) to (9), it is acceptable to skip to
step (12), carry out the engine power assurance test and
return the aircraft to service.

(4) Perform a detailed visual inspection on the Burner Pressure Sensor

Tube for water contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 73-22-49-220-040).

(5) Perform a functional check of the HPC 7th stage bleed valves and the
associated solenoids operation (4020KS1 and 4020KS3-A only) (Ref. AMM
TASK 75-32-52-700-011) using the bleed valve test set TEST SET-BLEED
VALVE (IAE2R19437) or equivalent.

(6) Perform an inspection of the VSV mechanism (Ref. AMM TASK 75-32-42-

(7) Do a check of condition of the Intermediate Pressure Check Valve

(IPCV) (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-41-200-010).

(8) Lubricate and perform a general visual inspection on the 2.5 bleed
system (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-600-011).

(9) Check for SMR messages (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-012).

(a) If P2T2/ADIRS/1/2/EEC1 with fault acronym T2SSF is present, do

the troubleshooting for this fault (Ref. TASK 73-22-00-810-871).
If P2T2 SENS/HC/EEC1 with fault acronym T2XCF is present, do the
troubleshooting for this fault (Ref. TASK 73-22-00-810-817).

(b) If messages are not apparent, obtain one or more of the following
AIDS reports: Start, Take-off, Cruise or Gas path advisory (Ref.
AMM TASK 31-36-00-740-011). Cross check the T2 readings between
the engines and each engine against the aircraft TAT. This can
also be checked by an alpha parameter call up on the MCDU (Ref.
AMM TASK 31-36-00-740-008). If there is a discrepancy of more
than 8 deg.C between the readings then do the troubleshooting for
this fault (Ref. TASK 73-22-00-810-871).

(10) Perform a borescope inspection of HPC stages 3 and 6 (Ref. AMM TASK
72-00-00-200-016).

(a) Reject the engine if damage to the HPC is outside of limits.

(11) Perform an engine power assurance test, test No.11 (Ref. AMM TASK 71-

R A. Procedure: Starting point for engines with EEC software SCN 17 and above.

NOTE : For A5 engines that are pre-EEC software SCN 16 (SB

____
V2500-ENG-73-0170), only stalls/surges greater than 2 seconds
duration will be indicated on the ECAM by a warning ENG 2 STALL.
Any stalls/surges that recover within 2 seconds may be audible and
indicated by an unselected continuous ignition caption on the
lower ECAM panel, although no warning will be set, and it may not
be immediately possible to identify which engine has stalled.

For A5 engines that have EEC software SCN 16, only stalls/surges
greater than 2 seconds duration will be indicated on the ECAM by a
warning ENG 2 STALL. Any stalls/surges that recover within 2
seconds may be audible and indicated by an unselected continuous
ignition caption on the lower ECAM panel, although no warning will
be set, and it may not be immediately possible to identify which
engine has stalled. However, all stalls/surges that recover within
2 seconds will be recorded with a class 3 message VSV MECH/BLD
VLV/LPC2, to identify which engine has stalled.

For A5 engines that are post-EEC software SCN 17 (SB

V2500-ENG-73-0184), all stalls/surges will be indicated on the
ECAM by a warning ENG 2 STALL regardless of the duration of the
stall/surge.

(b) If foreign material or internal damage is not present, continue
with this procedure.

(3) Check the CFDS or engine records for ENG 2 STALL ECAM messages during
the last 10 flights.

(4) Check the CFDS or engine records for ENG 1 STALL ECAM messages during
the last 10 flights (checking the history of the other engine).

Therefore, for a flight crew reported stall/surge with no
accompanying ECAM warning, a FADEC interrogation should be carried
out to find out if Class 3 message VSV MECH/BLD VLV/LPC2 and fault
acronym PBSTL has been set (Ref.

If the Class 3 message VSV MECH/BLD VLV/LPC2 is found by

maintenance personnel through a routine check of Class 3 messages,
then the message should be troubleshot using procedure 4.A.

(9) Check for SMR messages (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-012).

(a) If P2T2/ADIRS/1/2/EEC2 with fault acronym T2SSF is present, do

the troubleshooting for this fault (Ref. TASK 73-22-00-810-871).
If P2T2 SENS/HC/EEC2 with fault acronym T2XCF is present, do the
troubleshooting for this fault (Ref. TASK 73-22-00-810-818).

(b) If messages are not apparent, obtain one or more of the following
AIDS reports: Start, Take-off, Cruise or Gas path advisory (Ref.
AMM TASK 31-36-00-740-011). Cross check the T2 readings between
the engines and each engine against the aircraft TAT. This can
also be checked by an alpha parameter call up on the MCDU (Ref.
AMM TASK 31-36-00-740-008). If there is a discrepancy of more
than 8 deg.C between the readings then do the troubleshooting for
this fault (Ref. TASK 73-22-00-810-871).

(10) Perform a borescope inspection of HPC stages 3 and 6 (Ref. AMM TASK
72-00-00-200-016).

(a) Reject the engine if damage to the HPC is outside of limits.

(11) Perform an engine power assurance test, test No.11 (Ref. AMM TASK 71-
