Have you made the decision to go sober, just for tonight or even for good? Congrats!

Going sober
has many benefits—there's no hangover, there are fewer calories, and you're far less likely to do
something worth forgetting.
To help you on the hunt for something to enjoy at weekend BBQs and sunny happy-hour
extravaganzas, we featured our favourite booze-free drinks below, for you to try. These are great
alternatives if you’re bored of choosing water or soft drinks, and they look like the real deal—
perfect if you’re tired of explaining yourself to friends or family. Happy drinking!

1 The Fauxjito
This non-alcoholic take on the traditional mojito is perfect if you want a delicious drink to enjoy
with friends.

Ingredients:
 3 fresh lime wedges
 3 teaspoons brown sugar
 10-15 mint leaves
 75ml ginger ale
 75ml apple juice

Method:
Fold the ice inside a tea towel and use a rolling pin to crush it. To crush the mint, hold it in your
palm and whack it with the back of your other hand. Put some mint, sugar, one lime wedge and a
little apple juice in first and crush with a muddler (or the end of a rolling pin). Add the rest of the
lime and mint, add the crushed ice and pour over the remaining apple juice and ginger ale. Garnish
with a lime wedge, mint sprig and cinnamon sprinkle.

2 The Shirley Temple

Try this classic mocktail with a squeeze of fresh citrus juice (lime is best). Best consumed with a
brightly-coloured straw.

Ingredients:
 15ml grenadine syrup
 15ml freshly squeezed lime juice
 200ml chilled ginger ale
 Maraschino cocktail cherry and thin lime slice, to decorate
 Ice cubes

Method:
1
Place a few ice cubes in a tumbler, add the grenadine and lime juice then top up with ginger ale, and
garnish with the cocktail cherry and lime slice.

3 The Firepit Steamer

Here’s a hot, spicy but fresh-tasting drink to wrap your hands around on those late summer nights.

Ingredients:
 100ml cranberry juice
 100ml red grape juice
 Half a star anise
 Half a cinnamon stick, plus one to serve
 2 cloves
 Slice of peeled fresh ginger root
 1 teaspoon brown sugar

Method:
Simply put all the ingredients except the extra cinnamon stick in a pan and warm up very gently,
stirring, and keep hot (not boiling) for several minutes until the spices infuse. Strain into a thick
glass tumbler or mug and serve with the cinnamon stick for stirring to release the steam. Drink
while hot.

4 Mango Lassi
This is more a milkshake than a cocktail, but it’s a delicious and refreshing complement to a
summer meal - ideally a curry.

Ingredients:
 2 ripe mangos
 500 g low-fat natural yoghurt
 100 g ice cubes
 Runny honey, optional
 6 green cardamom pods, optional

Method:
Crush the cardamom pods in a pestle and mortar (if using) and discard the green husks. Bash the
seeds into a fine powder and set aside. Cut the juicy flesh off the mangos (the riper they are, the
better), leaving the stone in the middle and trimming away all the skin. Place the flesh and any
juices into a liquidiser with the yoghurt, ice cubes, 1 tablespoon of honey and the ground cardamom
2
(if using). Blitz until smooth, have a taste and add a little more honey if needed. Serve straight
away.
