Answer: Transport means to carry things from one place to another. In human by it refers to
carrying nutrients, oxygen and waste products from one organ to another.

Question 2 What is the function of platelets in the blood?


Answer: Platelets contain a fiber that forms a blood clot to stop a bleeding cut.

Question 3 What is blood? Name the components of blood?


Answer: Blood is a mixture of platelets, red cells, white cells and plasma.

Question 4 Why is the transport of materials necessary in plants and animals?


Because cells need nutrients and oxygen to produce energy and cells also need to get rid of
waste products of metabolism.

Answer: Because every part of our body has cells that need blood to get oxygen and nutrients.

Answer: The heart is a pump made of muscles. Its function is to pump oxygenated blood to cells
and take back deoxygenated blood back to send it to lungs to replaces the carbon dioxide with
oxygen.

Question 7 Define arteries, veins and capillaries?


These are channels for transporting blood in body.
 Arteries carry blood away from Heart.
 Capillaries spread through the tissues, so blood gets in every cell.
 Veins carry blood back to heart.

Answer: Food and oxygen are transported by blood cells through the body.

Question 9 What is a heartbeat? Name the instrument used by doctors to listen to our
heartbeat?
Heartbeat is a contraction of heart while pumping blood to body. Heartbeat is easily measured
by feeling and counting your pulse.

Question 10 Explain why the heartbeat faster during and after an exercise?
If we do exercise more energy is needed by exercising muscles that makes the heart pump
faster to transport more blood, to provide more energy

Stethoscope is a tool used to listen to heartbeats. Its parts are.

Question 12 What is pulse? What is the pulse rate of an adult person while resting?
Pulse is a blood serge felt by blood in artery passing over a bone close to the skin surface.
Pulse rate of an adult person is 70 beats per minute

Question 13 How do food, oxygen, carbon dioxide and other materials transport in animals such
as hydra and sponges?
Food, oxygen and carbon dioxide are transported by red blood cells that have haemoglobin.
