STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL

CARGO

1. General

CAUTION: OBEY THE ALLOWABLE DAMAGE EFFECTIVITY PER WEIGHT VARIANT AND AIR
CRAFT TYPE GIVEN IN THE RELEVANT PARAGRAPH.
CAUTION: HIDDEN DAMAGE CAN LEAD TO A FAILURE OF THE REPAIR OR SURROUNDING
STRUCTURE.

CAUTION: OBEY THE GIVEN INSPECTION INSTRUCTION REFERENCE WHICH LEADS TO THE
APPLICABLE INSPECTION PROGRAM DEFINED IN THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR IN
SPECTIONS (SRI) SECTION OF THE SRM, IF NECESSARY.
CAUTION: FOR ALL ALLOWABLE DAMAGE EFFECTIVITY RELATED TO AIRCRAFT TYPE, RE
FER TO PARAGRAPH 3, GIVEN IN THE INTRODUCTION OF THE SRM.

CAUTION: AFTER REWORK THE DAMAGE AREA MUST BE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAT
THE ALLOWABLE LIMITS HAVE NOT BEEN EXCEEDED. WHEN THE LIMITS ARE
EXCEEDED A REPAIR IS NECESSARY. REFER TO THE COLUMN ’ACTION OR
REPAIR’ IN THE IDENTIFICATION PAGE BLOCK.
A. This topic contains allowable damage data for the Cargo Compartment
Doors. Allowable damage is damage for which a structural repair is not
necessary. You must remove the damage down to a smooth contour and
compare with the allowable limits given in the relevant Chapter.
NOTE: For the definition of allowable damage, refer to Chapter 51−11−11
.

NOTE: For the definition of repair categories, refer to Chapter 51−11−14

.

NOTE: For damage/repair data recording, refer to Chapter 51−11−15 .

NOTE: For the repair of minor damage, refer to Chapter 51−73−00 .

NOTE: For the repair of corroded areas, refer to Chapter 51−74−00 .

2. Allowable Damage

A. The column ’Action or Repair’ in the relevant identification page block

gives references for the available repairs. These are necessary if the
allowable damage limits are exceeded.

NOTE: For DESCRIPTION and CRITERIA of allowable damage, refer to para

graph 3.

CAUTION: OBEY THE ALLOWABLE DAMAGE EFFECTIVITY PER WEIGHT VARIANT AND AIR
CRAFT TYPE GIVEN IN THE RELEVANT TABLE.

CAUTION: THE ALLOWABLE DAMAGE LIMITS GIVEN IN THIS PARAGRAPH ARE ONLY AP
PLICABLE TO THE TYPE OF DAMAGE SPECIFIED. IF YOU HAVE THIS TYPE
OF DAMAGE TOGETHER WITH A DIFFERENT TYPE OF DAMAGE, FOR EXAMPLE
DENT PLUS SCRATCH, CONTACT AIRBUS. IF ANY OF THE DAMAGES ARE
WITHIN THE CHAPTER 51−73−11 LIMITS THEY DO NOT NEED TO BE TAKEN
INTO ACCOUNT IN THE ASSESSMENT.

(4) Temporary Replacement of Damaged Fasteners

Temporary replacement of damaged fasteners as per replacement Table

A, B and C given in Figure 104 is acceptable according to the fol
lowing rules:
− Provided the lightning strike conditions included in Chapter
52−00−00 Page Block 201 are fulfilled and the rework does not ex
ceed the limit for permanent allowable rework (e.g. 10% of nominal
skin thickness with length up to 100 mm (3.937 in.)), blind fas
teners can be installed. The blind fasteners have to be replaced
by original type or oversize/alternative as per Chapter 51−43−00
within 3000 Flight Cycles.
− For the replacement of fasteners, refer to Chapter 51−42−11 .
− For hole and drill data, refer to Chapter 51−44−11 .
− If the above conditions are not fulfilled, blind fasteners may be
installed without enlarging the countersink in skin and have to be
replaced by original/oversize/alternative type fasteners (refer to
Chapter 51−43−00 ) within 50 Flight Cycles. In this case, if the
original countersink is reduced due to the rework by more than
50%, protruding head blind fasteners should be used. If the origi
nal countersink is reduced due to the rework by less than 50%,
countersink head fasteners should be used without enlarging the
countersink in skin, i.e. the fastener head will protrude.
