Semi-Detailed lesson Plan in Science 8

I. OBECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates an understanding of how cell divides to
produce new cells.
B. Learning The learners should be able to compare mitosis and meiosis and
Competency their role in the cell-division cycle
C. Objectives
Knowledge Describe the stages of cell division in mitosis
Skills Demonstrate understanding of different mitotic cell division; and.
Attitude Appreciate the role of cell division in mitosis by showing the
different stages of mitosis.
II. CONTENT CELL DIVISION: MITOSIS

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Preparatory a. Prayer
Activities b. Checking of attendance
c. Review of the previous lesson

B. Motivation Who among of you here who experienced wounds or cuts? What
did you observe after a few days?
(Answers may vary)

C. Activity Arrange the scrambled words below.

1. ESAHPORP
2. ESAHPANA
3. ATEMESAHP
4. POLETESA
D. Analysis Based on your activity, where do these stages belong? what are
the different stages of mitosis? What is the exact order of these
stages?
(Answer: Mitosis-Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase,
Telophase)

What is the importance of mitosis in our lives?

(Answer: The importance of mitosis in our lives are cell repair
and maintenance. This can be observed in wound healing and
replacing old cells like the skin. Also, mitosis is the main
cause of growth both in animals and plants.)
E. Abstraction Cell Division: Mitosis
Play a video about mitosis using this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-ldPgEfAHI
This type of cell division occurs in somatic (body) cells which
produce two identical cells with the same number of chromosomes
(Diploid). Mitosis is divided into four stages as shown in the
diagram below.

(The teacher will discuss the different stages of mitotic

division and should be followed by presenting the image and
question below)

Based on the image shown, which of the following is the prophase?

Why do you say so? (Based on the imaged shown, the two
images on the upper left are the prophase stage because the
chromosomes are condensed inside the cell.)
How about the anaphase stage? Why do you say so? (The
anaphase stage is where the chromatids are pulled apart to
the opposite poles of the cell. This process can be observed
in the upper right of the image as well as in the lower left.)

F. Application Paper Plate Mitosis Craft

The teacher will group the students into 4. The teacher will provide
(Group Activity) materials to each group. (1 paper plate, different yarn colors,
marker, glue)
(See attachment A for the rubrics and group assignment)
G. Practical How was your experience doing all those activities?
Applications of (Answers may vary. Students may feel excited, nervous, or happy)
Concepts and
Skills in Daily
Living
H. Generalization Why is it important to learn the different stages of mitosis?
(Answer: It is important to learn the different stages of mitosis for
us to learn how cells multiply in our bodies. This may also help us
understand the different diseases caused by an error in cell
division.)

I. Evaluation Read each statement carefully. Choose the letter of the correct
answer.
1.Mitosis is a cellular process that produces
a. two genetically identical daughter cells.
b. four genetically identical daughter cells
c. two similar, but not genetically identical daughter cells.
d. four similar, but not genetically identical daughter cells.
2. The first stage of mitosis where chromatin condenses to form
chromosomes is
a. Interphase
b. Prophase
c. Anaphase
d. Telophase
3. The part of the cell cycle where a cell spends most of the time
carrying metabolism.
a. Interphase
b. Prophase
c. Anaphase
d. Telophase
4.The stage of mitosis where the chromosomes line up at the cell’s
equator
a. Interphase
b. Prophase
c. Anaphase
d. Metaphase
5. The stage of mitosis where the spindle fibers pull the chromatids
toward the centrioles.
a. Interphase
b. Prophase
c. Anaphase
d. Telophase
J. Additional Answer the following questions:
activities for Which stages does each of the following occur?
application or _______1. Chromatin condenses into chromosomes.
remediation (Prophase)
_______2. Chromosomes align in the center of the cell.
(Metaphase)
_______3. The cytoplasm is divided into two daughter cells.
(Telophase)
_______4. Nuclear envelopes break down.
(Telophase)
_______5. Sister chromatids separate and centromeres divide.
(Anaphase)

C. ASSIGNMENT
Read about meiosis and answer the following questions:

1. What is the major difference between mitosis and

meiosis?
2. What is the importance of meiosis?

Prepared By: Hope Desyree S. Diaz

ATTACHMENT A (for Application)

Instructions. Group yourselves into four groups by counting one through four. Present and explain
your assigned mitotic stage in front of the class.
Group 1 – Anaphase Group 3 – Metaphase
Group 2 – Telophase Group 4 – Prophase
Procedure:
1. Use the paper plate as your cell.
2. Cut the yarns into desired length. This will serve as your chromosomes.
3. Using the glue provided, paste the yarns according to the stage your group is assigned to.
4. Use the marker to draw the nucleus. You may also draw spindle fibers and cell poles according to
the stage you are assigned to.
