з дисципліни «Вступ до перекладознавства»

в групі «ФПА-23-1а» 1 курс 27.10.23 о 09:35(2 пара)

Тема: «Types of translation»

Мета:

- практична: практикувати різні види перекладу з англійської на

українську мову, збагатити лексичний запас у студентів;
- розвивальна: розвивати уяву та логічне мислення студентів,
покращити здатність студентів аналізувати власний переклад тексту.
- освітня: розширювати кругозір студентів під час заняття;
- виховна:виховувати повагу до культури народу, мова якого
вивчається, формування вміння співпраці з одногрупниками, а також
інтерес до вивчення англійської мови.

Обладнання: посібник «Introduction to translation» , ноутбук, відеозаписи,

роздатковий матеріал.

І. Вступна частина заняття.

Етап 1. Привітання. Організаційний момент.

Мета: організувати студентів та налаштувати їх на навчальний процес.

Прийом: привітання та заохочення студентів, оголошення теми і мети

заняття.

T.: How are you today? As you already understood, guests will be present at our
class today. I wish all of us productive studies and new knowledge. Today we’re
going to talk about different types of translation.

Мета: ввести студентів в іншомовну атмосферу.

T.: Before we start our class, we are going to have a little warming-up. Let’s

-Name the last book in genre of fiction you read and who translated it?

T: Now, let’s check your homework. Please, read your translations of poem and
explain changes you’ve made in target text. And then let’s read and translate 2
fragments from literary texts and explain the meaning of italicized words. Can
you name the ways you translated those words?

Мета: закріпити знання студентів з попередньої лекції

Прийом: повторення теоретичного матеріалу з попередньої теми

T: Now let’s revise a little bit theoretical material you know from previous
lecture. So, what do you know about written translation? What types of written
translation do you know? What meaning does the word interpretation have in
English? What types of literary translation do you know and what type is more
interesting for you?

Етап 3. Виконання завдань перед переглядом відео.

Мета: збагатити словниковий запас новими словами та виразами,

розвивати навички говоріння.

is simple one of you will be performing a consecutive translation into Ukrainian.

translate it without preparation.

Етап 7. Систематизація й узагальнення нових знань

Мета: систематизувати новий матеріал

Прийом: узагальнення у розмові основних моментів нового матеріалу

T: Students, today we have remembered material: There are two types of

translation written and oral translation/interpretation. Written translation is
divided into the following subtypes: a) translation of fiction / literary translation;
b) translation of non-fiction / informative translation. As a type of translation,
interpretation includes the following activities: a) consecutive interpretation or
oral translation of some sentences or fragments after the speaker; b)
simultaneous interpretation or interpreting at the same time (simultaneously)
with the speaker; c) whispered interpretation. We practiced with you the first
type of interpretation.

Мета: удосконалити та закріпити знання з теми заняття.

Прийом: переклад тексту і аналіз використаних трансформацій.

T.: Your hometask for the next lesson will be to translate the text about
conference interpreter.

Етап 2. Підсумки заняття

Мета: оцінити роботу студентів на занятті.

Прийом: вербальне заохочування та оцінювання.

T.: Today we have discussed different types of translation and practice them.
Thank you for your active work, each student has got a good mark today. So, the
next lesson we will continue and our topic will be connected to interpreting. See

Додаток 2. CONFERENCE INTERPRETER

The place is the Intercontinental Hotel, and the annual International Oil Industry
Conference is about to break for lunch. Cathy Ganson who is interpreting from
Ukrainian into English speaks into the microphone. " If there are no more
questions, we'll stop for lunch." From the window in her booth Cathy sees that the
speaker steps down. Cathy removes her headphones.
 When asked how she prepares for conference interpreting, Cathy said : " When I
receive the outlines ( стислий план, конспект ) of the speeches in advance, I can
look up every technical term beforehand. But this time I knew that the topic was
oil. So I've read around the subject to get familiar with English technical terms. "
Cathy was born in Britain. After receiving a univeersity degree she did a 6-
month postgraduate course in conference interpreting. Applicants for this course
passed the language and aptitude tests. Only 50 % of all students passed their
final diploma exams.
Most conference interpreters are freelancers. Which organization they work for
depends on the languages they offer. Someone like Cathy can work for the UN in
New York, for the World Bank and UNESCO in Paris, for NATO in Brussels.
Conference interpreters earn between 250 and 450 dollars a day. " It varies
according to where you are working and how many of you there are. Usually there
are two of us in the booth, taking turns. I interpret one speech, then a colleague
does the next. We work as a team because it's less stressful. "
Cathy thinks the interpreter must convey the sense, first of all, even he/she can't
think of a specific word. " You may be feeling bad because you do know the word
but you can't remember it. But if you try to recall it, you will lose the rest of the
speech. " She says you also need to think fast. And she considers it is necessary to
make use of some proverbs in different situations.

Cathy thinks concentration is the most important quality in the interpreter. " You
must convey the sense even if you can't think of a specific word. You will waste
time trying to remember it and you'll lose the rest of the speech ". She says you
need to think fast. Also, interpreters should know some proverbs, like : When the
bird is building its nest, it cannot sing.
