need to take a short break (5 10 minutes).
Plan for 6 revision slots of no more than 50 minutes a day.
Make sure you have NO distractions.

Key Messages from the Head of Department:

Make sure you go through the papers carefully – do what you can do then check the mark
schemes for hints and tips. Use Mathswatch to look up topics and watch videos on topics
you are still struggling with. Corbett maths website also has easy to find videos.

You could also visit the Onmaths website and try some online papers. The site marks work
instantly and gives you a grade as you go along. There are also opportunities to watch
videos for questions you struggle with.

Make sure you know all of your biology specific terminology as we have a lot of key words.
Make sure you know your equations (for example magnification, or light intensity and
distance) and how to use and rearrange them.

Look through the required practicals, you could be asked to write a method, analyse
results, draw a graph or make a conclusion.

Make sure you know your command words and science vocabulary.
For example, what does a question want if it says describe or explain.

For example, what are the different types of errors?

Key Messages from the Head of Department:

In your revision sessions, you must have (and practise) the Key Subject Terminology. You
must cover the Key Topics (for each exam) and know what key areas will be covered in each
exam.

You must practise using as many revision materials as you can, especially those online. If
you have not purchased a revision book for GCSE Citizenship, I have added a link at the end
– you must take personal responsibility to review each topic thoroughly. Please ensure that
you review ‘case studies’ and the how ‘Pressure Groups’ can change politics.

Finally, you must practise your written responses.

If you work hard now, it will pay dividends later…

Key Messages from the Head of Department:

The past paper included above is the paper you sat in year 10, so would be advisable to
attempt it again. Your Mock paper is paper 3 from the technology student website,
which can be found via the link below. The website is excellent and has a wide range of
information as well as revision resources and practise papers;
http://technologystudent.com/despro_flsh/new_revison1.html

Utilise your revision and workbooks making sure all exercises are completed and marked.
You need to be revising keywords and technical language ensuring you know how to
spell these correctly.

Material properties should be used in descriptions, to show depth of understanding, if

you have not got one already, make a glossary of these in the back of your orange folders
and regularly revise.

grades per question.

Key Messages from the Head of Department:

Remember, this is worth 40% of your final grade – even if you feel you did well with the
practical examination you MUST revise and prepare.

You will need to re-read ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’ at least two more times and know it.
You cannot afford to waste time in the exam reading through the text.

Thoroughly revise Brechtian staging techniques and be clear with what Brecht was
attempting to achieve through his practices (learn some key quotes from Brecht himself).

Thoroughly revise Drama terminology – key words (i.e. alienation, improvisation, fourth
wall, tableau etc).

Research live theatre productions you have seen (particularly the names of the actors,
director, designer, dates and location that you saw the performance). You cannot take
notes into the exam regarding your live theatre pieces.

Key Messages from the Head of Department:

The 2018 GCSE paper which was your Mock, is on One Drive, in a folder called exam papers,
as are other exam board materials, please use these. All lesson resources are there as well,
including Year 10. The Student Digital Text Book really enhances learning and can be

resources, created especially for the qualification, accessed via special 'hotspots' on the
page, including: films of all the key cooking techniques and skills, animations explaining

Key Messages from the Head of Department:

You should use your exercise books, text books and revision booklets as a starting point for
all of your revision. You need to recap both content (i.e. learning specific factual details)
and exam technique (i.e. how to answer exam questions). Do this in the revision booklet if
you have not done this yet. There is one booklet per paper.

To help you to do this, I would strongly encourage you to have a look at the sample
assessment material and make notes on what you can learn from the sample answers. You
can then have a go at answering the questions in the Sample Papers. There has only been
one set of papers in June 2018 (they were your mock) and are not freely available yet.

Remember that the casestudies are REALLY important – you have a case study booklet –
use it. Don’t forget that the case study must include enough place specific detail that if you
changed the place name it wouldn’t make sense. Have a factual paragraph you can use
whatever the question for each casestudy, then make sure you have the key points
Case studies – P1 - Jurassic Coast, Swan Brook, Salford Quays, Leeds (or Poole), Somerset
Levels, Beast from the East
P2 – Peruvian Amazon, Andros Barrier Reef, Rosario, Ethiopia, The Big Dry
P3 – How successful was the redevelopment of the London Docklands? Does Longshore
Drift affect the beach landscape at Worthing

answering the questions in the Sample Papers.

As lots of you discovered in your mock assessments, if you just learn the content and
describe everything you know, the highest grade that you can get is a 3 (although you are
more likely to get a 2). You are better than a 3!!! Therefore, make sure that you revise both
content AND exam technique.

Key Messages from the Head of Department:

It is crucial that you are able to breakdown each Area of Study into sections. Use the Virtual
Textbook (videos have been shared with you) to make sure you have a good knowledge of
each section. You should be also be using the retrieval packs for each Area of Study, this
will help you to continue to build your knowledge and language. Use the lessons from Focus
on Sound, the sections of use are GCSE (not just OCR), Instruments, Theory, Chords and
Cadences and Aural Training.

Further aural training for melodic dictation can be achieved here:

http://www.teoria.com/en/exercises/md.php

Listen to as much music from each area as well. You will have received a suggested listening
list but try to go beyond this. You can listen to music that is relevant to this GCSE whilst
revising for other GCSE’s!

Key Messages from the Head of Department:

There are a number of resources on the shared area:

 Topic tests for each topic of each paper, including answers

 Topic on a page resources for testing retention of knowledge, including a completed
side as well as a blank side.

You should use your revision guides and pair this with the revision workbook which gives
you further guidance on content and how to structure answers.

Remember that for long answer questions, AO1 marks are correct answers and basic
information. You get AO2 marks from showing more depth of your understanding but
explaining in clear and concise detail, any key terms or characteristics. AO3 marks come
from applying this knowledge in sporting context, being specific and clear in detail.
