2023 APPLICATION GUIDELINES


ABOUT THE AWARD
Awards are enabling grants to pursue a post graduate course of study for which the applicant has
a provisional acceptance in any subject relevant to the development needs of Barbados and/or
the Caribbean.
Note: Preferential consideration will be given to applicants who will be completing
their course of study during the 2023 - 2024 academic year.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:

• Be Citizens of the Commonwealth Caribbean or anyone of whose parents or grandparents is


or was a citizen of the Commonwealth Caribbean.
• Be persons who intend to pursue or currently pursuing a course of postgraduate or equivalent
study in a subject relevant to the development needs of Barbados and the Caribbean.
• Demonstrate need for financial assistance.
• Be a person of outstanding ability between the ages of 22 and 45 years old.
• Be a person of high intellectual and academic achievement with integrity, who respects other
people.
• Be a person with leadership qualities with a high capacity for sustained hard work.

AWARD VALUE
The value of the award is fixed by the Trustees in each case, having regard to the needs and
resources of the candidate and the cost of fees, maintenance, books, insurance, travel and other
expenses incurred in pursuing the course of study. Candidates should be aware that the grant
will be a contribution towards the cost of study, and they will therefore be expected to satisfy the
Trust that they are able to secure the remaining funds from other sources. Payments are made
to the institution and/or the scholar, as directed by the Trustees.
Important Note: A refund to the Trust may be required if the conditions of the grant are not
complied with substantially in terms of the application and the award.

AWARD CONDITIONS
1. Successful applicants must begin their courses at the time and institution approved by the
Trustees. No change can be made without the express permission of the Trustees.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL ONLINE (SEE LINK BELOW) AND


ACCOMPANIED BY THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS LISTED.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Ensure that you have prepared and have ready for upload all required documents listed below
before starting the application form.

• Documents must not be larger than 2MB in size.


• Document title must include your name and what it is (e.g., Evidence of citizenship - Jane
Doe)
Documents:
1. Evidence of citizenship (file format accepted - pdf or jpeg)
• Birth certificate OR passport

2. Certified copy of graduate degree or diploma (file format accepted - pdf or jpeg)
• Do not send copies of CXC and CAPE results

3. Evidence of at least one conditional acceptance by the educational institution for the proposed
course of study or evidence of current enrollment on the course. (file format accepted - pdf
or jpeg)

4. Statement of available funds (file format accepted - pdf, word or excel)
