COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Direct Competitors

Do some research to find who are the current players in the space that offer
a similar offering as to what you’re planning to provide consumers? Check
Crunchbase and LinkedIn to get a sense as to how big the company is (any
recent funding)? The main purpose is to get a good understanding of the
players, and where they fall short (in the eyes of the consumer).

 HOSTEL CHAINS: There are a few existing hostel chains like Zostel, Horn Okay please,
The Madpackers Hostels etc. which are in direct competition as they are working in the
same line but with different value propositions

1st player ZOSTEL – BIG COMPETITOR:

 Target Market: Zostel primarily caters to budget-conscious travelers,
particularly backpackers and solo travelers. They focus on providing
affordable accommodation options with a vibrant and social
atmosphere.
 Demographics: Zostel attracts a diverse range of travelers, including
domestic and international tourists. Their target audience often
consists of young individuals in the age range of 18 to 35 who are
seeking authentic travel experiences, cultural immersion, and
opportunities to connect with fellow travelers.
 Locations: Zostel strategically establishes its hostels in popular tourist
destinations across India. They have a presence in cities such as Delhi,
Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi, Goa, and various other tourist hotspots. By
targeting well-known locations, Zostel aims to capture the attention of
travelers visiting these destinations.
 Unique Selling Proposition (USP): Zostel differentiates itself by offering
comfortable and affordable accommodations, along with a lively social
environment. They emphasize creating a community-like atmosphere
where guests can interact, share travel experiences, and participate in
activities organized by the hostels.
 Online Presence: Zostel maintains a strong online presence through
their website and social media platforms. They actively engage with
their target audience, share travel tips, promote events, and encourage
user-generated content. Online booking facilities make it convenient
for travelers to reserve their stays.

2nd & 3rd players are not as developed as ZOSTEL in India yet it will give low
level competition to new businesses in this field.

Indirect Competitors

Think about how your consumer is currently solving their problem. If they’re
not using a direct (apples to apples) solution – what are they currently doing?
This is the status quo, something you’ll also be competing against/address in
marketing/sales efforts.

1. MOTEL- A motor hotel (motel) is a hotel designed for motorists, and usually has a
parking area for motor vehicles. The word motel, coined in 1925 as a portmanteau of
motor and hotel or motorists' hotel, referred initially to a type of hotel consisting of a
single building of connected rooms whose doors faced a parking lot and, in some
circumstances, a common area; or a series of small cabins with common parking. Motels
are often privately owned, though motel chains do exist.

2. YOUTH ACCOMMODATION - Youth accommodations like that provided by YMCA and

YHAI are basically dormitories, typically consisting of a number of beds, often bunk beds,
and many offer storage facilities such as lockers. Such rooms are a means of being able to
offer cheaper accommodation for large numbers of people and typically contain 4 - 8
beds. The facilities provided are of very basic level.

3. CLUB ACCOMMODATION - Some clubs like Lions Club, Rotary Clubs etc. provide
accommodation to their registered club members at nominal rate at first come first serve
basis.

4. INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS (ISKCON) ACCOMMODATION

- ISKCON is basically meant for people having “life patron membership” at ISKCON, a life

2
patron membership will cost Rs. 25,555/-. One of the basic limitation of ISKCON
accommodations is that it is not available at most of the tourist destinations.
