Scalloped Fly Bonnet

Please read all notes before beginning.


Abbreviations and terminology that will appear in this pattern:

St= stitch

Ch= chain
Sc= single crochet

Dc= double crochet

Tc= triple crochet

“Single dc” = dc that is not in a 3dc cluster. Dc that is alone.

For this project, you will need: 5mm H hook, yarn needle, scissors

Yarn used: Peaches & Crème Cotton, two 2.5oz balls

All photos included in this pattern are from HORSE size bonnet.

Let’s get started!!!

Start
Row 1: Ch 7, join. In ch7 loop, sc, ch3, 2dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1, 2dc, tc. Turn.

Row 2: Sc, ch3 into tc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space from previous row. Dc into center dc. (3dc,
ch1, 3dc) into next ch1 space. Tc into top of ch3. Turn.

Row 3: Sc, ch3 into tc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. (dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc) in center dc. (3dc,
ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Tc into top of ch3. Turn.
Row 4: Sc, ch3 into tc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. (dc, ch1, dc) into the first single dc. Dc.
(dc, ch1, dc) into last single dc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Tc. Turn.

Row 5-16: sc, ch3 into tc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. (dc, ch1, dc) into first single dc from
previous row. (dc,ch1) into each single dc across until the second to last single dc. Dc. (dc, ch1,
dc) into last single dc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Tc into ch3. Turn.

Notes: 16th row should have 29 single dc when complete. There is no ch1 before the last (dc,
ch1, dc) that is worked into the last single dc. Do not finish off.

Top
Row 18: Sc, ch3 into tc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc, dc. Turn.

Row 19: Sc into second dc, ch3. Dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Tc into top
of ch3. Turn.

Row 20: Sc, ch3 into tc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc. Dc into ch3 space.
Turn.

Row 21: Sc, ch3 into first dc. Dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Tc into top of
ch3. Turn
Row 22-34: Repeat rows 20 and 21. Finish off.

Top (Other Side)


Row 1: Attach yarn to the fifth single dc from the left side of your work. Sc, ch1. Dc, ch1, dc,
ch1, dc, ch1, dc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Tc into top of ch3. Turn.

Row 2: Sc, ch3 into tc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc. Turn.

Row 3: Sc, ch3 into first dc. Dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Tc into top of
ch3. Turn.

Row 4: Sc, ch3 into tc. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into ch1 space. Dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc. Dc into ch3 loop from
previous row. Turn.

Row 5-17: Repeat rows 3 and 4. After row 17, fasten off leaving enough tail to sew the two top
sections together.

Notes: Sew the sections together being mindful of which side you would like to be the “top” of
your work.
Center
Row 1: Attach yarn into the seventh single dc from the right. Sc, ch3. Dc, ch1 16 times. Dc. Turn.

Row 2: Sc, ch2 into second dc from previous row. Dc, ch1 13 times. Dc, dc. Turn.

Row 3: Sc, ch2 into second dc. Dc, ch1 11 times. Dc, dc. Turn.

Row 4: Sc, ch2 into second dc. Dc, ch1 9 times. Dc, dc. Turn.

Row 5: Sc, ch3 into second dc. Dc , ch1 8 times. Dc. Finish off leaving enough tail to sew center
section to top.

Notes: Sew “center” section to “top” sections together making sure the center is centered with
the seam on the top as pictured. Be mindful of the top and bottom of your work when sewing.
Ears (Approx 7” long)
Row 1: Attach yarn in the “outer bottom corner” as shown. Sc. Sc 30 evenly around ear
opening. 30th sc should be in the same space as the first. Turn.

Row 2: Sc, ch3. Dc 29. Turn.

Row 3: Sc. Sc 28. Sc into ch3 space. Turn.

Row 4: Sc, ch3. Dc 29. Turn.

Row 5: Sc. Sc decrease. Sc 24. Sc decrease. Sc into ch3 space. Turn.

Row 6: Sc, ch3. Dc decrease. Dc 22. Dc descrease. Dc. Turn.

Row 7-17: Repeat rows 5 and 6, decreasing in the second and second to last stitches in the row.
Row 17 should have 4 stitches.

Row 18: Sc, ch2 in first sc. Dc decrease. Dc. Turn.

Row 19: Sc3. Fasten off leaving enough tail to sew ear seam.
Notes: Turn ears inside out and sew loosely. Again, be mindful of the top and bottom of your
work so that all seams are on the bottom.
Trim
Attach yarn at the top seam. Sc 5 in each space around. Join in first sc. Finish off.

Throat Strap (Optional)


Ch100. Sl st into 6th chain from hook and to the end. Finish off.
