HORSE BONNET Fessch et ~ PEL Pete fo This are instructions for how to make a full sized horse fly bonnet. After searching the internet for some good instructions I decided to make my own. You will need some beginner crocheting and sewing skills, yarn, some stretchy fabric (can be an old T-shirt) and a 2 mm crochet hook, The yarn | used is 100% cotton, super fine (about 2 mm in diameter). The whole project is made with a 2 mm hook (although the yarn called for a 3-3.5mm). 125m of yarn should be enough for this project (depends on the length you want) Remember, horses’ heads can really vary in size, if you have a chance to try it on your four-legged friend while you are working — please do. | have done this pattern for 8 horses and it fit them all perfectly, but still, take a moment to look at your horsey. Does he have big ears and a small head? Does he have a giant head and small ears? So, now that you've got your supplies, let's begin! RO: chain 21 Rt: de in 3rd chain from hook, (cht, skip 4 ste, de in next ste) 9 more times, — you should have 10 de with ch1 spaces (the chain 2 at the beginning does NOT count as a de through the whole work) R2-7: chain 2, (de in ch1 space from previous row, ch1) 9 times Put the last dc in space between last de and the ch2 from previous row. — 10de with ch1 spaces after just finishing the last de in row 7, you should have 7 rows of 10 de ch1. It's time to measure your work. It should be about 7,5 cm in | length and width. Change your hook or tension if incorrect. Then chain 21 R8: de in 3rd chain from hook, (ch1, skip one ste, de in next ste.) continue till the end of chain. You should have made 10 dc. Ch1, dein ch1 space from previous row. Ch1 and continue pattern untill the end of row. You should have made an additional 10 de, in total — 20de with cht spaces R9-20: chain 2, (de in cht space from previous row, ch1) 19 times. Put the last de in space between last de and the ch2 from previous row. ~ 20de with ch1 spaces partypalacinka| R21: chain 2, (de in ch1 space from previous row, ch1) 9 times. Put the last de in space between last de and the ch2 from previous row. — 10de with ch1 spaces SEA SU SELLE A Babee eRe ORCOCU CCC rCerg s SCecREACERR EER ReR SS ae You should now have a T-shaped pattern with 7 rows of 10de, 13 rows of 20dc and 7 rows of 10de. R27,5: chain 19, then de in top of chain2 from md 20 (pictures below), ch1 and de in space under chain2 from rnd 20, ch1 and de in space under de from md 19, ch1 ... continue until the end. (places where to put the de are marked with numbers on picture below) Put the last de at the last stitch at the edge (19th chain from chain 21 in rnd 7) picture on next page r Arye eae Viena ey You should have made 15 dc at the "bottom of the T shape"; 13 for each row and 1 for each end. Chain 1, de in chain1 space from previous row, continue J pattern until you have 14 de at base of “letter T”, cht, de in first chain, cht, skip ‘one, de in next chain ... It forms a continuous de ch1 pattern that you will build on in next rows to make the front of the bonnet (| call these rows the ‘long rows’) R28 - ?: Following the pattern from before make 5- 7 more rows, depending on the style and size of the bonnet that you want. | prefer to make 7, fora total of 8 ‘long rows’. Cut yarn and weave in ends, Get a marker or piece of thread and count 14 cht spaces from edge of long row inward and mark that space on both sides. (If you made less than 8 long rows you might want to do less than 14 spaces, check on your horse if possible.) This is where we start our decreasing rows for the front of the bonnet. Reattach your yarn at one of the marked sides. Chain 2 and de in same ch1 space. Ch1, de in next ch1 space ... Continue until you get to the other marked ch1 space. Make your last de in there. Then chain 2 and de2tog (the first and second chaint space), ch1, de in next ch1 space Continue to the last cht space. De2tog | (the last cht space and the space between the last de and chain 2- see picture on right) ERS See) Continue doing this until you get to the desired length. If you want the bonnet to be longer (attaching to the noseband) you can alter the pattern and only do the first/last de2tog of row. Now we will add the edge. Reattach yarn at one of the ends (see picture) and sc in each stitch all around, Try to make the edge on the decreasing side as even as possible. Sc all along the decreasing side. Put two sc in same space at the top of the bonnet (an the narrowest part). - see picture below Add two sc here to make the edge smoother. Continue sc along the top, then again make two sc in same space on the other side. Sc down the decreasing side to the end of row. The rest of the edge is where you can get most creative. Use different colors, make a scalloped edge, sew something on like to make a hde row in a different color and another hdc row in the same color as before. Below are some examples. 4 Congratulations! The crocheting part of your bonnet is finished, Now it's time to weave in all the loose ends. Then we need to make a pattern for the ears. Get a piece of A4 paper and fold it in half. You will need a ruler to mark certain points on the folded side (see picture). Make a mark at: 1,50m 7,50m 12cm 19cm ELAN LECA eC) Now we will make diagonal lines. From the 1,5cm point measure out 11,5cm. From the 7,5cm point measure out 11cm. From the 12 cm point measure out 9.5 cm. Connect the points to get a folded ear shape, then cut it out, unfold it, draw it on your fabric, twice and cut it out. partypalacinka EIS Teese Fold the fabric cutout in half and sew along the drawn line (picture above). Use a running backstitch if you don't have a machine. Do that for both ears - make sure to fold them at the same side of the fabric (otherwise you can get slight changes in color). Bring the crochet and the ear together. The straight side should be facing the middle (see picture). Gently put the ear in the earhole. Lift the front long part of the bonnet up and over the top to. see the bottom of the ear fabric. Now this is the part that will be a bit difficult to explain See the part where you have sewn the fabric together? You need to align this seam with the outer edge of the earhole triangle. It will be difficult to see on a picture, but it should be easy to see on your project. If you followed the instructions above it should already be pretty much aligned Now use pins to attach the fabric to the yarn around the hole. You will need to stretch the fabric just a little. Now you can start sewing again. Use a backstitch to make the stitches strong enough. Repeat for both ears. And that's it! Your bonnet shold be comlete and ready to wear. | hope | managed to explain well enough. This is a free pattern, please don't try to sell it. You can post it on your blog/social networks. You can sell products made with this pattern. I hope you and your horse friend have a lot of fun trying it out :)
